a week ago today i started a loperimade taper to deal with withdrawls from norco 40mgs daily . I started at 16mgs i'm down to 9 but, now i'm worried that a week after I stop taking the loperimade i'll just end up in more W/Ds than i started with. i'm considering going back on the norco and trying to taper if my doc can be talked into that idea. gees i just want off these things since atm I am not in too much pain and i would like to just get the point where i can take meds ONLY when I am in pain not every day because my body needs it.

You'll have easier W/D's coming off a low dose of loperamide than you will hydrocodone. And hydrocodone is much easier to relapse entirely on.

Keep it up; 9mgs of loperamide a day is almost enough to jump off. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I would advise you to keep moving forwards.

I'd say the exact same thing, but mayb it could be said in a more straightforward fashion: Coming off a low dose of... loperamide used to mitigate opiate wd is NOTHING dude 8)

Take care & good luck!

if your successfully using 9mg lope to stave off the withdrawls then there's absolutely no reason to get back on hydro because your pretty much out of the woods. try to not take any lope at all one day. if you make it a week and need em then (i doubt it) then take em then. dont take hydro that's silly.

40mg of hydro is light work and if you're only on diarrhea medicine right now I doubt it will be too tough to ditch it if your really want to. What kinds of problems is a 40 mg hydro habit really causing in your daily life though?

thanks everyone for the replies and encouragement. :)
uno 22, it wasn't quite yet but, i could see how it might sleeping more missing class... also my parents are missionaries and I am physically disabled so they are more in my life than is normal for most 32 yr old law students. Like they come up here to help me clean my apartment etc. Anyway they have no background in all this and probably don't know the difference between addiction and physical dependancy. So with their missionary status and lack of background I think they would blow a gasket if they knew I was taking the stuff every day. I'm tired of worrying about what if they find the empty Rx bottles...

Also I like being trusted with the stuff for when the pain really sucks. I've done "the W/D flu" twice now because i refuse to ask for early refills. I was off everything until complications from an appendectomy left me in the hospital for a month (went from normal surgery to MRSA from the hospital was in ICU, blah)... so now i'm ok for a while at least until the next round of club med adventures and just want off so i don't have to worry about the W/D flu or being without pills ever again
