Wormwood - Uses besides in absinthe

We have wormwood growing in our garden and I have looked on Erowid for ways it can be used besides steeping it in alcohol to produce absinthe...

Has anybody had any success in, perhaps, drying it and smoking it in a blend with pot... or eating it?

It's strange how in one sense I've read wormwood helps prevent animals (and humans?) from getting worms or for helping upset tummies, etc... but on the other hand I've heard that it can have mild effects similar to that of dope...

I'd be keen to know if anybody's had any success with this stinky plant, what did you do, and how did it effect you? :)

I've smoked it with pot. Tastes lovely :)
Apart from that, I don't *think* it messed with my head,
but when you're that stoned it's hard to tell.

I would play with the stuff if I were you,
sticking it in bongs with rosemary and other kitchen herbs
(and some salvia if you can get it).

Yeah if I'm not mistaken... I was at a friends house one morning after a big night out... we had been tripping... and when we got to his place, shared half a pill and half a trip...

...he proceeded to get his pot out and brought this blend of salvia, damiana, pot, etc... I can't remember what else was in it... but like a very mild blend of various herbal delicacies ;) Perhaps he mentioned there was wormwood in there too...

(we had a few mushies later too - gosh what a gorgeous day that was!)

On it's own wormwood seemed a bit too harsh, I had ONE toke of it in my glass pipe and felt it burn my throat... so next time I'll try it mixed up (I had no pot on that day)

Thanks for your response :)

I made a wormwood extraction by just letting it soak in 91% isopropyl alcohol, straining and letting evaporate. I've smoked it on several occasions. Quite mild, even compared to pot. It did combine VERY well with DXM though (but what doesn't?) My best experience was taking about 1200 mg DXM, smoking the wormwood goo and then going to get a professional Swedish massage. It was very nice, sort of detatched but VERY physical...

seriously placement man, i like a little DXM on occassion, but dont u think 1.2 grams is waay more than you need?

oh, and there is talk of wormwood's possible action at the cannabis receptors

interesting, but did wormwood have significant effects smoked on it's own though?

sounds like making absinthe is a much better use for it :) *yumm*

Smoking an extract made by soaking the crushed plant material in everclear and then straining and simmer down to a goo, produced what is now, after many months, a hard very dark green-nearly black resin chunk. It tastes and smells foul when you smoke it, however, it does produce a high very similar to smoking weed in my experiences. It tastes so bad though. I never smoked something I needed a chaser for, but for this it is a requirement for me.

When i smoked wormwood extract i didnt get as high from weed the next couple of days as normal.
Only tried it twice though.

Wormwood/thujone's response with cannabinoid receptors was based on erroneous assumptions relating to the shape of the molecule ... this has since been proved to be false.

From what I can tell thujone acts as a GABA agonist (although I'm more than happy to be corrected on this), however even this has been called into question as to the psychedelic effects of absinthe.

As ever, more serious research is needed to understand the true activity of the chemicals provided by a wormwood tincture.

For the most part the pleasurble effects of absinthe seem to be related to the high percentage of alcohol used in most of the available tinctures (my most common experience is with la fee parisienne 64%abv, although I'm going to be growing my own wormwood next year and creating my own once it is ready for harvest)

I've tried it in a few different formulations and all I ever come to is the conclusion that it is marginally psychoactive if at all.

Antagonist.

When combined with alcohol, as in absinthe, thujone antagonizes the GABAergic effects of alcohol, thus allowing other effects of alcohol to manifest more dominantly (dopamine release, NMDA antagonism etc)

in theory.
