I have just gotten word that Erikmen is being issued a Nobel Prize! It is a new category created especially for people that have mastered several languages. It has been finally confirmed that Erikmen has mastered more English vocabulary--not only how to spell words correctly but also to use them correctly in a sentence-- than 99% of Americans, 50% of Australians and New Zealanders and 40% of native speakers in the UK. When asked how the Nobel committee collected their data for this honor, several word association threads from a dubious drug site were cited. Congratulations, Erikmen! Meanwhile, I plod along with my pathetic attempts to at least get upgraded from comical to conversational in español. 8)

Now, on to the word.

reeking. No matter how many beers of every different type get shoved at me with the same line, "Try this one. I'll think you'll change your mind once you taste this one" I still think beer stinks.

To each their own pungent beverage selection, "Kanpai!"

Erikmen, I meant congratulations for the Nobel Prize. Well-deserved!

And apologies, it was difficult to remember everything in the excitement, I'm sure you understand. ;)

Thank you hervabore! :) It really means so much to me and it sounds quite impressive. I'm doing my best to learn new words and expressions everyday and try to use them correctly. The most interesting thing about writing in a different language is how challenging it is when you try to write it considering the different logic.

Even within your finest beers I feel their smell quite unpleasantly, despite of their fancy origins.

@Yes cduggles I understand. Thanks a lot anyway. :)

Yes, congratulations Erik. Although,

"Even within your finest beers I feel their smell quite unpleasantly, despite of their fancy origins."

while conveying the message fairly well, needs a little work. But then, my three years of HS Spanish make me a great example of language mastery.

==================

What's strange is that when I was stuck in that ravine, I really noticed the aroma of the chaparral, and one of them smelled distinctly like beer. I wasn't hallucinating yet either.

Thanks Scrof., and yes, I know. I suspect it needs a lot of work though. At this stage my goal is to communicate the message trying not to make so many mistakes so you can understand what I intend to say. Learning is a constant process, it never ends and it requires a bit of courage to go further as you know the words and their meanings are not always right and far from being perfect. In Spanish for instance - I can only do that verbally.

Anyway, the distinctive scent would allow me to clearly identify what type of wine I would be drinking even if my eyes were shut and the room full of beer.

I only thought it was a little ironic, is all. The timing.

The antiseptic, astringent stench of my liquor was what blinded you, I'm afraid.

Hootch means booze. Hoosegow means things like prison or jail.
I'd like a top shelf margarita, on the rocks with salt. Please don't let anyone partake of my disco biscuits.
They sound so quaint.

^ Another word for ecstasy

'Johnny was at the club and took some quaaludes which gave him an overdose.'

This isn't the greatest forum for stumping people on drug classes.

While looking for obscure anti-viral meds I found out pharmacophore is a new BS term in drug development.

'Scrofula stayed home and ate meth.'

Ironic.

I bet you didn't know Brownies grow up into Girl Scouts? Who sell cookies? They really do set up booths outside weed dispensaries.

Yes, poor girls. Imagine if they have gotten the wrong bags and distributed weed biscuits rather than the usual.

Indeed quite popular, especially if they could have been benefited from all the extra cash.
