Without opiates even when im not W/D ing
* No motivation whatsoever
* No interest in anything
* bad ptsd flareups
* thoughts all jumbled into a mess I cant untangle
* feel drained in every way possible
* psychically feel 90
* No real emotion except an annoying vague agitated feeling and a sense that im imploding
* Cant really talk..just cant express myself clearly..cant get the words or the meaning right in my mind...dont even want to be around people
* Disassociated from myself and the world

With opiates
* Motivation
* love doing many things
* still have some ptsd and other issues but can practice mindfullness and work them out sort out my issues instead of them paralyzing me
* have SOME energy enough to do things anyways
* notice that I feel somewhat drained but also healthier and able to rest and function
* feel all emotions just able to deal with themm
* able to be social
* want to be around people
* make plans for future
* Enjoy the present
* able to concentrate
* Can do the things I need to do to move forward with my life

I know its not a long run option though...And ive been sober...tried many things...nothing seemed to help...Meditation Excersize diet all feels impossible...and dosnt really do anything when im not on anything. Its been like this for years. Tried all the anti depressants...all made me wayy worse and suicidal...Should I maybe ask a dr about being on an opiate type antidepressant...I know there is one...cant recall the name at the moment..But wondering if anyone has tried anything like that...how easy is it to get...does it work...how long...do you feel a lot of the ssri action...? Any other ideas?

Are you talking about Tramadol? I myself am on suboxone for maitenance, it works incredibly well as an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety. My sub doc said it's being tested as an alternative med to traditional SSRI. I'm someone whose tried many SSRI's, didn't work. But suboxone does.

subs worked well as an antidepressant for me. I almost never felt depressed. I felt "normal". scientists are looking into dopamine related depression more (bout fucking time). personally though I was on subs for maintenance and missing my daily dose made me fucking sick beyond belief (was on a high dose for like 6 months and tapered down quickly). just gotta make sure you take your dose. I've heard trams worked nicely as well due to both acting as a mu opioid agonist (its metabolite nortramadol does anyway) and a snri as well if I remember correctly.

i really doubt if you're in NA that a Dr. will prescribe you tramadol for depression/ptsd or other issues not related to physical pain. Bupe sounds good but i hear the withdrawals are miserable. ATM i don't think there are any really effective treatments for depression/anxiety/mental anguish. Tramadol would be great but it's rarely prescribed off label for depression, and opiates/oids can cause people agitation so they aren't a perfect fix either.

Give kratom a try, it feels a bit like tramadol. It's a decent antidepressant and anxiolytic and there are many strains so you can switch up the strain to get the effects you want, as well as alter the dose for a more sedating feel. Kratom does have a withdrawal though and some people end up having problems with it either not working after a long time or having a strong dependence on it. Other than that, i have to recommend lifestyle changes, not just diet and exercise, but doing what you want in life and setting/achieving goals. That will help more than any medication currently available, street drug or prescribed.

Tramadol has NRI and serotonin-releasing effects (a la Effexor/venlafaxine) in addition to opioid effects. Suboxone (buprenorphine) has been tested as an antidepressant and has shown some promise. I really doubt you'd be able to get a prescription for Suboxone as an antidepressant, however.

I had a shrink prescribe me opiates for getting off of H (demerol at first, then morphine or methadone), but this is probably rare as shit and almost certainly medically unethical or illegal. I read years ago about Russian scientists trying opiates for depression, but never heard anything more about it. I cannot think of any anti-depressants that are remotely related or near the opiate family. Shame really, but I know that pills cannot fix bad memories or get me a better job, etc. Some things are just depressing.

Yeah, I've never heard of anybody getting it for that reason... I mean, it's a nice bonus for people who get it for opiate addiction..but that's just an addition.. not the reason they were on it in the first place.

If you don't need to be on an opiate for either pain or maintenance... you shouldn't. You're just inviting all this shit like psychical dependency, etc into your life. Stick with the meds actually designed for depression.. it may take a while before you find one that actually works for you.

^^ Exactly. Of course opiates/opiods will make you feel less depressed, because they are euphoric and relaxing as hell. But they are not SSRI's.

I don't take opiates consistently and I can tell you that I have the same feelings. I do take Xanax and smoke weed, but this is all just straight depression. Deal with the issue at hand. You feel this way for a reason and deal with it. My reason is that I know i under-accomplished in life and slacked to get where I am. Covering it up with any kind of drug especially a fuckin opiate is a bad idea. I was on SSRI's also, they don't do a damn thing, placebo maybe for those who think it does

SSRIs carry the same risk of physical dependency and going through cycles of bullshit. Finding the right one is the most retarded thing i've ever fucking heard (no offense to retarded people reading this). IF a medication doesn't work it doesn't work, you don't need to try 20 SSRIs and combinations of SSRIS, DRIs and SNRIs to realize that they do fuck all for anyone. You're better off on tramadol than any of those (yes tram is an SNRI but also an opioid, which is probably the only reason it is effective for depression).

I think opiates really are the best anti-depressants in the world.

And from what i've heard about SSRI dependency I'd rather have to detox from opiates than those.

sounds like your experiencing PAWS OP. If i were you I would defiently stay away from any opiate related drug for a LONG time and look into naltrexone and ibogaine.

I know doctors who prescribe it for anxiety and depression. HOWEVER, they only do it for people who have had a history of opiate use. So while it is rare, it does happen.

If you've used opiates before and will use them illegally again unless you go on maintenance then a doctor would probably like to hear that
