JACKSON — A Rankin County woman who lied on her food stamp application will serve more time in federal prison than a group of people sentenced in a in a multimillion-dollar mortgage fraud scheme.
The Clarion Ledger reported Saturday that U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate sentenced 47-year-old Anita McLemore, the mother of two teenage children, to three years in prison.
McLemore pleaded guilty in July to one count of submitting a false claim to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Temporary Assistance and Food Stamps program. She lied about not being convicted of a felony.
But Wingate said records show McLemore has at least four felony drug convictions and one misdemeanor conviction dating to 1996.
She made false statements in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010, according to an indictment.
McLemore, who has lived both in Rankin County and in Jackson, filed for food stamps at a Department of Human Services location in Rankin County.
