Women. Religion’s longest running victims.

That's precisely what I said in my post... so we agree?

Well everyone is oppressed so we can be here for days if we cover all this. I mean myself as a white person I could be passed over for jobs due to affirmative action. As a man I would be called up in military draft, if we have equality of women shouldn't women get drafted as well? The nightclubs they all have ladies nights were women get in free, never a men's night. As a man I have a shorter life expenctency and more chance of getting killed in the workplace or shot on the street, great to be a man

The Church still teaches that women are here to please their husbands. That they are to do as their husband wishes, they are to fulfill his sexual needs whenever he has them, that he is the head of the family, he makes the decisions, etc.. The sexual exploitation of women is a HUGE problem in the Western world. Women are seen as sexual objects and if they do not meet the standards of society, they are ugly, nasty, disgusting....and the list goes on and on. Guess where the root of this problem lies?

I tend to think of you as pretty moderate Richard, and don't disagree with many of your posts, but I strongly disagree with this statement.

In my opinion, the root of the problem with sexual exploitation of women in the western word and them being seen as sexual objects is due to the society and the culture we live in. The secular world is the root of this, not any church or spiritual/religious teaching.

Amen.

Woman have it far worse in non-Western society. In America and half of America they all run around naked as empowered feminists and decide to not shave to go against gender norms. Craziness.

The difference in much of western society is that even if they are seen as sexual objects by some, they are still able to take care of themselves and speak up about.

The secular world is still heavily influenced by the Christian Church. The western world was founded on Christianity; just because the culture is now mainly secular, does not mean that the ideals of The Church have disappeared. If it was the rising of a secular population causing the problem, men would be objectified to the same degree as women - but they are not.

This article serves an interesting read. http://www.xojane.com/sex/true-love-waits-pledge

So Women refusing to shave is now crazy? But it's totally cool for men to be as hairy as they wish? Why is that?

Once again, I'm not just bashing The Christian Church and excusing everyone else. My argument is that oppression in any form or degree is a problem, so Christianity still has a problem.

But for whatever reason, you seem to be directly contradicting the teachings of Christ by justifying the Church. So, do you follow Christ, or the Church? Does your life revolve around Christ, or the Church? What teaching do you uphold the most and consider to be true, Christ's, or the Church?

I like it both ways as long as she's taking care of herself (ie, hygeine). To suggest that a woman is crazy for not shaving is a great example of what we're talking about here. Yes, it's FAR less so than women being stoned to death or forced to wear a burka, but it's still an issue.
