I've realised that...
When people call me ma'am, that's me
When someone tell me I'm beautiful, that's me
When I feel loved and happy and comfortable, that's me
And when I look in the mirror and there's someone staring back, that's me.
I always thought I'd be a woman when my hands looked like a woman's hands...
But while they may still have scratches on them from our cats
And while they may be stained with ink from my days work
And while my nails may be short or broken and uneven from years of playing castanets (or from inheriting Dad's weak nails),
I look and realise they have 22 years of experiencing, touching, feeling, learning, writing, yearning, wisdom in them...
And I am a woman.
I'm a woman with hips, breasts, ovaries, and an arse larger than I'd like
But I'm beginning to feel a comfort and an affinity with my body.
I'm a woman with thoughts, intelligence, knowledge, conversation
I'm a woman with the capacity to learn, to soak up the world and experience new things
I'm a woman who loves sex, raw sex
And I love passion and desire and fantasy and making love.
I'm a woman who loves unconditionally
I'm a woman who knows how it feels to be loved
I'm a woman who has forgiven, understood, empathised and realised
But been run into the ground with sadness, loss, grief and hate in the process.
I'm a woman who craves chocolate and drinks wine til I'm dizzy, and cries when I need to.
I'm a woman who believes the Goddesses and Gods will take care of me and those I love
I'm a woman with spirit and identity
I'm a woman with morals, values and beliefs that are constantly evolving.
I'm a woman who can dance and feel so alive that I think I'll burst.
I'm a woman with my health, my fertility
I'm a woman who can see, taste, touch, hear, smell and FEEL.
And I love being a woman.
