A woman has been arrested at a Colombian airport after 1.5kg of liquid cocaine, stuffed in two tied-up latex gloves, was discovered inside her breasts.

Paola Deyanira Sabillon confessed that an 'unknown substance' was implanted inside her and she was ordered to transport it to Barcelona.

The 22-year-old Honduran aroused suspicion because she was acting strangely in the security line at El Dorado airport in the country's capital Bogota, according to airport police.

X-rays revealed that surgery had recently been carried out on her breasts and round £150,000-worth of cocaine had been planted inside.

Authorities believe the surgery took place at a 'clandestine clinic' in the city of Pereira, western Colombia.

The implants have since been removed at Bogota hospital where Sabillon is being treated for an infection.

In an equally strange incident in September 2013, a Canadian woman was arrested at the same airport for trying to smuggle 2kg of cocaine in a 'fake pregnancy suit'.

Tabitha Leah Ritchie, 28, was stopped while trying to board an Air Canada flight to Toronto after an inspector noticed her stomach was unusually cold and hard.

Police discovered she had strapped on a fake, latex-made belly to herself and filled it with the illegal class-A drug.

'The way she operated was to fool law enforcement checks by faking a pregnancy,' said Colonel Esteban Arias, deputy director of Colombia's anti-narcotic police department.

He said Ritchie had arrived in Colombia on August 6 from Toronto and he identified her as a social worker.

It was the first time he had seen that method of transporting drugs and said they were investigating who had made the fake stomach.

Around 300 tonnes of cocaine are produced per year in Colombia which has long been a major hub for drug production and trafficking.
