A west suburban couple who drove to Chicago to buy heroin got stuck at a train crossing on the way back, and did all the heroin, authorities claim. They were passed out in the running car when police found them.

Just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Riverside police got a 911 call that a running vehicle was stopped in the southbound lanes of Harlem Avenue at Addison Road, and both the driver and passenger were slumped over inside, a statement from police said.

The first arriving officer found the pair passed out in the car, which was running and in gear with the driver’s foot on the brake pedal. The officer called paramedics and tried to revive the driver by shaking her, police said.

When she woke up, she wiped a white substance off her lap and clothing, police said. And she seemed “confused, spoke with slurred speech and appeared dazed,” the statement said.

Both she and her passenger, a man who did not wake up, were taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, police said.

The driver —- Ivana Tasevska, 21 —- allegedly told police the couple had rented a room at a motel in Lyons, then driven to Chicago on the Eisenhower to buy heroin, police said.

On their way back, they were stopped in traffic because of a freight train which blocked the crossing for a lengthy period, so they injected the heroin, police said. She also admitted taking methadone, Xanax, crack cocaine and heroin in the previous 24 hours.

Tasevska, 21, of the 0-100 block of Stratford Court in Indian Head Park, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic citations, police said.

The passenger, a 22-year-old Brookfield resident, was not charged, and was treated for a heroin overdose. Police said they could not charge the couple with drug possession because they did all the heroin, but they did seize the 2013 Kia utility vehicle they were driving.

“Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence in the suburbs. Many of our suburban residents are making their way down the Eisenhower into Chicago to purchase narcotics, get back on the expressway and return to their homes and jobs,” Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said in the statement.

“I am glad officers were able to get on the scene quickly, summon paramedics and get the individuals medical treatment before a tragedy took place.”

Had the driver “woken up and inadvertently accelerated while under the influence” she could have “caused a major accident on Harlem Avenue, possibly injuring innocent motorists,” the chief said.

Ive never understood why people tell all this shit to police officers.
is it lack of education?
they are going to use anything they can to get you in trouble so tell them as much incriminating shit as possible lol

This would suck tho must have been some strong dope.

^ For real man, shit's ridiculous. If you're going to be charged for all those drugs you took, at least wait until they show up in a blood test or some shit. But yeah, there have been a few times where I got out of trouble just because I kept my mouth SHUT. It's funny because there are a lot of people out there who are just like, 'Well, if I go ahead and tell the whole truth now, this cop will either help me out in court or at least understand where I'm coming from' - WHAT THE FUCK? Cops are there to put you in jail/prison for committing crimes. If you admit to committing a crime, that just makes their job easier! At least let them do their job and find out what the fuck to do with you without you TELLING them all the shit that went down. This is actually a damn good topic to rant about...

Shake my head though, if you're going to go out and get drugs, at least wait to do them until you get home...it's not a cardinal rule for everyone, but it makes things so much fucking easier...

I totally agree with you OPH! However, I used to drive an hour each way to get my dope (better quality and so much cheaper than where I live) so I would do just enough to where I wasn't sick for the ride home and then once I arrived at my house it was bombs awayyyyy! I have to say though, I was "smart" about it lol. I would do it in a restroom somewhere, dispose of the rig SAFELY, stuff the dope, and nobody was any the wiser. ?

Oh yea, I also don't understand people confessing all that kind of shit to the cops- THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU! (Relating to criminal matters that is).

Yea, people are so ignorant of how the police operate, it's scary.

My favorite: "If you can't be honest with me, I won't be able to help you". You see that one on COPS all the time. The police are not there to help, they are there to reach their quote, be it real or theoretical. They are there to fill up the docket for the court and send as many people to jail as they can. After all, think of the jail guards who would be out of jobs if there were no junkies to lock up. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law" and there's no law that says a cop can't lie or use psychological manipulation to get their arrest.

they confiscated her 2013 Kia? looks like the Chicago PD is still possessing cars from addicts. I would be livid if I were her, but then again, I have never passed out in the middle of a railroad crossing (that's asking for it)

the City of Chicago has to make heaps of cash from taking automobiles

they took her vehicle for what. she didnt have any drugs only paraphernalia. cops are the biggest criminals in the country after white collar banker criminals. fucking police are the worlds largest and most organized street gang. fuck cops.

they took her vehicle because she admitted to driving under the influence

that would happen 100/100 times regardless of what police officer you were dealing with
