WMC 2005 Reviews!

^ Nice one KemicalBurn.

It would, of course, be a pale and lackluster option for any devoted Drum & Bass head to attempt to switch to House.

Where you located in the US blonde?

Ah, and I'm in NY. Heading back to UK soon tho.

Mampi fucking gets around he was in south UK a couple of weeks ago, it was a tiny venue but he did a fat set.

Yo Seth, I'm curious as to how much money you spent down there for your trip. Reason I ask is, me and some buddies want to go down there in 06, but we'll be driving from Missouri.

thank u for all your input guys :)
I kinda like house music-I have nothing wrong w/it whats so ever but Im a true Junglist and I gotta stick to the d&b through thick&thin. Yes venues are getting smaller maybe its about time for me to re-locate my vacations-its just Miami is so pretty. I did have fun down this year and I wish I was still there but it just wasn't the same as before. Its going to be the best time I had all year, but its not like before(as I said) and not what I expected b/c I am used to it being different. One day I will get myself back to London its just so much more expensive.
If anyone goes to Miami--rent a scooter! :) This year I finally did and it was soo much fun :) =D

I am merging this with the WMC 2005 reviews thread that Djsethnichols started..PM me if you have an issue with this k :)

mmm...it depends on room share and such, and how many days you are going for.

I think you can get away with minimum 800-1500 for the whole thing. Most events are free, but some are not.

damn straight! dnb is a way of life!!

although i can appreciate a bit of house from time to time, especially when messed up at a club, although for being caned techno is definitly king.

What I saw at Ultra and at all the rest of the clubs and parties was pure attitude. There was just a bunch of rude people running around like it was they're first time at a party.

If its your first time doing "anything". Get the lowdown before you attempt it. Too many newbies asking me if I had "anything" or why is it not working. Common people, use your freaking head!
:p

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Ultra 7 was the rave with the best vibes I have ever seen. I would much rather have drunk hotties walking around me rather than tweaked out people who overdo the drugs and don't really get to experience the true magic of a rave like that. There are all kinds of people at Ultra. It's an actual annual music festival. a celebration. And please!! there was at least one kick-ass DJ who tore it up at every minute during the event. plus Sasha and John Digweed at the Afterparty. If you didn't like Ultra, imo you are probably confusing the experience with a shitty tab you got. Everybody needs to appreciate that parties like that exist here in the US and they keep getting better and better each year.
Peace

wow.......I thought it was the complete opposite....especially at ultra....no attitude at all, everyone was 100% cool as fuck....none of that South Beach B.S (that was mainly from the spring breakers NOT there for WMC)

Although....like Mystic said....its too hard to catch everyone u wanna see cuz everyone is playing all at the same time....I missed so many DJ's.....but i expected that......so i just wondered around until some muci pulled me there...

Most of the Headliners sucked w/ the exception of Infected Mushroom, Junkie XL, Errick Morillo, Freq Nasty and the tag team of DJ Craze & Adam F.....oh yea and Donald Glaude at the Radio1 party in Nikki Beach blew the place off of the roof....

I was well impressed w/ some of the smaller no name DJ's such as DJ Storm & Trvor Rockwell at ultra and future sound of breaks as well as Dj Annalyze.......Pleauserbox (live PA), Jonathan Ojeda at Wave hotel party and the many unknowns at the numerous hotel parties i attended....

ok.....well i guess ill double post my FULL review here as well.....much more lenghty than the above.....

Now that im settled back into reality here my lil WMC experience.....

Came in Wed afternoon....Met up w/ a few friends......hit a few hotel parties, heard some good music, met some cool people and got VERY drunk........tried to see some of the big names but some of those required a pretty expensive cover.....so we skipped out.....too much good FREE music out there

Ran into Seth Nichols at the creek hotel party......He handed me a CD and i recognized his name from here.....I was very fucked up by that point handing out drinks left and right talking all kinds of nonsense.....but i had a chance to listen to ur CD....it was def quality.....Ill PM u a full review in just a bit:)

Thursday was the Heavy Rotation night at the Wave hotel.....My friend who i met up w/ was throwing it.....Unfortunantly i missed his set...Good music all night.....The most memerialble were Pleasurebox (live PA) prog trance....awesome set....and Jonathan Ojeda....very nice upbeat tech house....Spent the rest of the night Bsing w/ the Pleasurebox dudes and their crew....

Friday.....hmm....oh yea.....hit up a local's place for a mini BBQ downtown....Spun some tunes, ate some good food (made by yours truely), and just chilled for the remainder of the day....It was a nice change of pace b/c we needed a lil break from all of the chaos...

Fri night we agreed to meet up w/ that same crew at Nikki Beach (the Radio1 nite).....I didnt get out until much later so i missed everyone and decided to make my own party....Met tons of people and chilled there all night.....Walked in as Donald Glaude was playing the "Pump up the Jam 2005" tune....what a great time to walk in......the place was going insane...

I was extremely impressed w/ Donald Glaude.....i was upfront for his entire set...awesome dj....had the place going crazy....Saw some other good djs....had no idea who they were though....

Sat we hit up Ultra....I got there at 2 right as Donald Glaude was finisheing his set......I made the mistake of bringing my camera...So i had to wait till my frienda arrioved w/ their car to stash it....I could hear the main stage though and i heard all of Infected Mushrooms set.......Too bad i couldnt actually see them cuz they were awesome.....and what better way then to end the set w/ "Cities of the Future"....

Well after a while, my friends arrived.....took us forever to get in....but as i walked in i was overwhelmed w/ all of the diff arenas blastin music....I lost everybody and just wondered around.....met more people....and even more people.....the vibe was unbelivable....1000's and 1000's of the coolest carziest people were all around u......

I must admit though.....I wasnt all that impressed w/ the Headliners....

Ferry Corsten - Some of his tunes were ok....nothing out of the ordinary....
Oakenfold - much better than Corsten, but his mixing was nothing great.....decent tunes though....
Junkie XL - This guy was the best of the headliners....never heard oif him before but his mixing was really good and some of his tunes kinda cool....

TIESTO - #1 DJ my ass....he wasnt horrible....but nothing diff from what ive seen form any other mediocre DJ......his set started off way too slow and his mixing blew hard.....I could do better...hehe....I took off for the other arenas ha;f way thru that impotent set....

I made my way over to the DnB arena right as Adam F and Craze were playing behind a sick ass MC.....Much smaller crowd but i was feeling alot of energy ....Their set was awesome.....

Then i was sucked over to the Breaks arena.....Was hearing some wicked tunes......turned out the DJ's who were playing were some guys i met earlier in the week....they invited me to another party but that was on the same night as sross's so i declined....but man did they blow me away....it was a tag team of DJ Storm & Trevor Rockwell.....they threw down one of the best sets i had heard while i was in Miami....i picked up a CD from one of thier gf's....congratulated them on a wicked set....it was def quality

I satyed at the breaks tent until we left caught Freq Nasty and Hybrid.......but i founf my new genre.....hehe...guess.....yea breaks.....

Oh yea....caught the end of Rabbit In the Moon....cool show...too bad we caught the end.....they always put on a freak show

Sunday i just went out partying w/ everybody who was staying at my hostel....We had an international vibe going...i think we had at least one person from every continent out w/ us....pretty cool.....but thats the vibe in Miami during the WMC's....Its a big time international thing....but everybody is cool as fuck

My fav thing about the WMC was it had the coolest no bullshit vibe....everybody i came across was really cool and very friendly....i made TONS of friends and almost doubled the #'s in my cell phone...Its like u dont even need to come down w/ friends b/c at the end of the trip u will have made so many....

Im most def coming down next year....I suggest anyone who hasnt gone b4 do whatever u can to come down....rob a bank, still candy from a baby, sell an organ (just not a kidney or liver....you will def need those ;) ) u will have a great time....And u really cant beat the music....its everywhere....and Ultra, OMG, what a ****ing event....

Welcome to dance music heaven.... :)

aw yeah Nice. I remember meeting you, you definatley seemed to be a 'happy place' when I happened by you ;) Good times...Miami.

wtf happened.. i miss one year and all of a sudden its suck fest?

two years ago they closed off the main arena to prevent the whole thing form being standing room only.. this year they didnt and it was standing room only through the majority of the arena, only place to dance was to the sides of the stage..

in general the thing was PACKED and the only way i could describe it is dirty...

granted it doesnt matter how packed the stage is when your front row center... its gonna be the same amount of package no matter how many people are behind you...

ferry corsten kicked ass like always and thank god it wasnt crammed at that time

oakenfold was being a total tool through his set, he sat down most of the time and only did his usall walk infront of the table and do the thing where he wiggles his fingers towards himself like comeon more more thing like once that i saw...

junkie xl who i have never heard from was really good for someone ive never heard of allthough thats to be expected from someone playing from a laptop

tiesto was awsome like always.. (flame away w/e)

paul van dyke sucked ass for the first three tracks i stuck around for...

went to crystal meths stage.. they were playing really funky nu skool stuff i didnt like..

went to bt he was playing really weird stuff aswell but was alright stuck their till the end, but there were a bunch of really gross people around that didnt know how to dance worth shit and scared me...

oh and i havent mentioned that i missed hybrid, baby anne, icey, and about 5 others cause they put all the people i wanted to see on at once...

and the place qas just PACKED with people high as kites.. and im not just talking about people on like a pill rolling im talking about REALLY fucked up people...

just seems like it used to be better :(

You didn't miss much of Baby Anne. She had Simply Jeff help her out like he always does. She throws on a record. Steps back, grabs a glass of water and stand there. Every 3 minutes she'll change the record, step back from the decks and stand there.

Yeah I wished I could've caught Damian down there, but we ended up somewhere else.

I also heard that Holden was stellar at the Border Community @ B.E.D. (Beverage-Entertainment-Dining) show Friday

The other big name off the WMC floating around is Nic Fanciulli. aka Skylark

My highlight of the conference was Steve Porter @ State Friday night 8o :)
from funky to dark to melodic to slammin

I went to a bunch of smaller parties throughout the week at WMC. I can't remember half of the parties I went to throughout the week. I went to so many.

Monday: I can't remember.

Tuesday: I checked out Stacy Kidd & several other Chi-Town house heads at Hotel Shelly during the day. Tuesday night, I rolled with some kats from OM Records to every party they were taken me to. Mark Farina was at one of these parties.

Wed: I can't remember. I did check out a DnB party where Deiselboy was spinning. The party was off the wall, and D-Boy was spinning some wild mixes. This was a very good party.

Thurs: I was invited to the OM Records party at the Mansion. This party I do remember. This place was bigger than Crobar... much bigger, in my opinoin. I've never seen a place like it. It was off the heazay all night! I can't remember much of the line up: Mark Farina, Kaskade, DJ Collette, Greenkeepers. Most of these kats I've never seen live except for Farina, who was at every party I checked out it seemed. This place rocked, and if you missed it, you missed it.

Friday: I got to spin house at the Creek, where I was staying. During the evening, I went to the Opium Garden. This turned out to be one of the best parties all week. The DJs were spinning funk, funk and mo' funk. I love funk! I made a lot of friends out there, since I too spin funk! That night, one of my old peeps and I went off to get trashed somewhere on Ocean Dr. We didn't check out any DJs. We just wanted to drink.

Sat: I got to spin again at the Creek. My peep and I went to Crobar that night to check out Carl Cox. His techno mix was hard as Hell. It scared my buddy off. I might start spinning techno... when I leave West Virginia. I can't pull off techno back home... I'll scare off the crowd. So I spin funky disco house.

Sunday: I got the Hell out of Miami.
