Look at me doing all these things without you
- Beth Orton, Stars All Seemed to Weep
this was an ordinary place yesterday
i woke up and made us coffee
then crawled back into bed
and into your arms
we made plans for the day
the same loose outlines
we always make
that never quite eventuate
we settled on driving around
looking for somewhere to eat
somewhere to sit and watch
the world turn by without us
and i wondered why
we even bothered getting up
because loving you is easier
when we stay between the sheets
but i am no longer content
to spend the day in bed
looking out the window
at all that wasted blue sky
so this morning, without you
i woke up and made my coffee
opened my doors to the world
and danced outside in the garden

wow! this was awesome! i love poems like this.
do you have any other favorites by this author?
please share them! :)

awwwww, thankyou :) :) :)
i'm actually the author, i just used some of the lyrics from one of beth orton's songs as a kind of reference for the poem.... umm, not quite sure how to explain that!

Your words are beautiful.
I agree with Sweetpea, one of the best pieces ive seen in here in a while.

I like this poem - very touching. It captures that impulse you get, when you rise above all the lethargy and waste... the impulse that spurs you on, makes you dance in the garden. :)

arrrrrrrgh, you go away for a couple of days and you get all these replies to your work!!!

and THAT is exactly what i was going for in this piece. it just describes one day in my life but i realised that it could have been any day. it's also about trying to help other people in the same rut while staying sane yourself. thanks for all the responses,
bk :)
ps yes, i really did dance in my garden - well on the front veranadah which is in the front garden and the whole street can see :)
