i would like very much to stop using cocaine. it has lost its appeal and effect, and when it is around i will do it. i have cut ties with the people i got it from and i am withdrawing heavily. does anyone have any suggestions of over-the-counter things which will do minimal damage to my system but allow me to withdraw from the drug? i don't want to do alcohol or (preferably) other drugs which may cause dependence unless needed to get through the period of withdrawal.
it was fun, but man i want the cravings to go.

What are your symptoms?
Physical withdrawl sypmtoms are easier to treat than cravings. Those will pass with time but depending on how bad your habit was it could be a long time.
I'd suggest benzos for the accute symptoms. If your worried about getting hooked on those, which is really easy to do, switch to diphenhydramine for sleep after about a week or two on benzos.

best of luck man, shit like that is never easy. stick to it tho. if you get into opiates or benzos be very careful and monitor yourself heavily.. trading one addiction for another isnt the best idea... sleep aids would be good, as 3 or 4 would knock you out, and you cant fiend when you're passed out :)

i've been taking diphenhydramine in the form of benadryl regularly to help me achieve sleep. i have allergies anyways, but it now seems to take 2 for it to be effective. i also take 500mg acetaminophen before bedtime.
i have stopped doing coke before, but i can't really tell you how i did it. this time, my nasal passages are doing weird things. when i lay down to go to sleep, depending on which side i sleep on, my passages will drain. however, even a couple of days later i still have the sinus issues of drainage and mucus. blowing my nose seems counterproductive, and using the corticosteroid i am prescribed only helps a litle.
are the benzos the really most effective route? i don't have days to devote to withdrawal, and i would have to get my hands on something like klonopin or valium i suppose.
though it might surprise you, i don't smoke. i don't want to start, again trading one habit for another.
the cravings are making me a little crazed in the head and i can't think of something to do to fight them. they only come over me at night, which is when i primarily use. during the day, i hardly think of coke.

Man I'd get some benzos if I were you. If you need them right away and dont have a black market source make a doctors appointment and tell him you have to take a couple flights in the next few weeks. You havent flown since sept 11th and you are scared shitless. Is there anything you can take so you dont panic on the flight. You should easily get a script for 15 xanax or valium or something. Just dont get hooked on the benzos too ;) If you are craving only at night you should be cool though, just take a xanax like 20-30 minutes before you want to go to sleep and you should have no problems.

i thought you didn't go through physical withdrawl from coke.. its not physically addictive.. I used to do it every day all day for months on end, like an 8 ball or more a day, and then when my parents caught me i never went through any phsical withdrawl.. my nose hurt and was runny. but thats about it besides just wishing i could do it. but if you are going through physical withdrawl then i guess xanies are the best for it. i love those shits.

You dont go through physicaly withdrawal from coke (in the form of sickness due to physical need), but sure as hell when you lay down in bed at night or you sit alone in the living room and everything is quiet and you are kind of bored your brain will start working on you by giving you these little hints. 'Hey man, this is lame, lets get some coke wont that be fun'. You have some xanax and it helps you ignore those messages that your brain sends.

but is that really withdrawl?? thats cravings.. its alot different. I mean withdrawl is a horrible expirience, and i cant even fathom saying i was going through withdrawl becuase i'm craving a drug.. in that case i'd be going through it right now.. i dont know.. just imho

Trazodone is also good for cocaine withdrawal/comedown, and its not as addictive as benzos.

how easy would it be to obtain a prescription for this? would i need to tell my PCP that i'm trying to quit or something else to get a prescription? (btw, PCP=primary care physician)

Trazadone is an antidepressant, so you could say something like -- well, my mom and my brother both take trazadone for their depression and anxiety and it works really well for them; I 've been feeling pretty anxious and depressed and I'd like to give it a try. I don't think it would be that hard for you to get a script.
Trazadone is pretty sedative, so it will help with insomnia too.

Bad news for you.
Cocaine cravings get worse at around 60 days after you stop using.
Think of it this way, you could be trying to quit heroin. And I'm sure quitting cocaine is nothing compared to the hell of heroin withdrawals. So it could be worse!
Now, as for your fear of taking other drugs that cause dependance, you should consider the fact that cocaine is not physically addictive. Rather it's purely a psychological addiction. So really anything you take you stand a chance of developing some sort of depedancy on if it gets you high.
On the other hand, I've always had wonderful success getting off various other drugs by smoking marijuana. I don't like marijuana. I won't smoke marijuana recreational more than once in a blue moon. I can get over my cravings with marijuana then once I don't think about using whatever I'm trying to quit, I just stop smoking pot.
It sounds like you're doing well on your own, though. Especially if you've already cut off your contact from others using coke. Most people don't think to do that. And that's one of the best things you can do. Just remember why you want to quit and you'll be able to do it.

You can also tell your doctor you have insomnia and trazadone enabled you to sleep. A lot of doctors prescribe it for the sedative effects instead of giving you benzo's.
Just don't drink and take trazodone.

im fighting this, but i think im winning the battle. i don't know how, it's very hard to explain, but it's just taking time to fight off the cravings. i know they will creep back in but 5 days has passed. i'm doing ok. just trying not to think about it. thanks to all for your input and consideration. it has helped a lot.

trust me when i say this... if u drink concentrated kava kava .. u will have no problem
.. thats what i did last nite to get to bed it totally gets u to sleep, rids u of anxiety .. etc..

Coke was a tougher quit for me than heroin. Crack was the toughest for me personally.
GHB is the godsend in all cases.
I quit coke, shards, and heroin. The crack had me by my balls for sure. Heroin was sneaky, but for me not as bad as it seems for others. The high just wasn't all that great...go figure...but I had some bad withdrawals.
Anyway, GHB can really help out with this, just be careful, because apparently it can be addictive as well, although this is not the case with me personally.

if it were easy for me to find GHB locally i would try it. however, this is just not the case. MDMA has been suggested buy the same issue exists with finding a pure cut of MDMA -- next to impossible to find without some cut of cocaine.
i have already slipped, and i am not enjoying the high any longer. i just want it imperceptibly and wish i did not.

This is *very* unlikely to be true, due to a number of reasons. (See FAQ section)
1) Coke is more expensive than MDMA
2) Coke brings down rolls
Not trying to attack you or anything, but these created-by-concerned-parents-who-have-nothing-better-to-do lies must be stopped.
Also, you're not going to find any H in your rolls, too.
1) Same thing.
2) H is barely orally active.
