I was an everyday smoker mostly indoor dank shit for about 4 years, then all of a sudden whenever I smokedI started getting very paranoid, anxious and insecure (I was also on Accutane at the time - think there might be a correlation) was actually put on Risperidone at one stage. I could no longer be around friends when I smoked - before I could do anything blazed and actually have fun (immense fun). So I stopped 3 years ago after not being able to enjoy the high I loved anymore - not for lack of trying.

I miss weed quite a bit, it made life so much more interesting haha (then again I've achieved a shit load in those 3 years). Just wondering if it would be different now if I smoked - whether the 3 year break would have made a difference.... Wondering if some low grade outdoor would be a good place to start and try see.

Also I stopped smoking cigarettes 3 years ago, just wondering if smoking clean green - no mix would make me crave cigarettes all of a sudden ?

Some input would be nice :)

IMO if you do decide to start smoking again I wouldn't go with low grade as from what I heard it usually causes a lot of those things (Anxiety, paranoia, etc.) without even giving you any sort of desireable high.

With a 3 year break, you're gonna get VERY high when you smoke again. I would recommend NOT low grade bud because as xthxdistortion said, lower grade weed tends to cause more of the unpleasant side effects. Get some good bud, and go very slow. Take a nice sized hit, wait 15 minutes and see how you feel. If you're not quite there yet, take another hit. You're better off using high grade weed and not smoking very much of it at all. It may also be best to have a friend around, incase you do get too high and paranoid/anxious, they can keep you company and perhaps calm you down.

The act of smoking may make you crave cigarettes, but after 3 years (congrats!!!) you can probably look past the craving, since it'll be mental and not physical.

Just wanted to point out that outdoor/indoor mean nothing with potentcy :)
But do what purple_cloud says, its the best idea. That or maybe get a high CBD strain, if you have your medical card.

Ah good point freehugs, outdoor/indoor doesn't mean very much, the weed tends to taste/look a little different due to growing environment sometimes, but strain is really the deciding factor as to how potent it is. From the sounds of it though, I'm guessing the OP doesn't have a medical card if he hasn't smoked in a few years...plus, freehugs, you're from California...the rest of us aren't quite so lucky :\ A high CBD strain would be fantastic for someone who tends to get anxious when they smoke, but to be honest, a lot of the names that get thrown around outside of places like Cali don't really mean anything either. People here tend to give it a name and use it as an excuse to increase the cost or sell more of it, so unless it's coming from a dispensary or you personally know the grower, it's unlikely you'll find that. You can talk to some stoner friends and see what's around and gives a mellower high. And as I mentioned, smoke with a buddy, being alone is only going to increase your chance of a negative thought spiral...with a friend you can get distracted and laugh. Rarely EVER do I get paranoid/anxious AT ALL if I'm smoking with someone else, although at this point I almost only smoke alone.

Oh, more to the OP --- I've never taken it, but I know several who have, and Accutane seems to have a wide array of strange and usually unpleasant side effects, generally psychiatric monitoring happens when you're on it, and in some cases it really seems to do more harm than good. Hence needing the risperidone (don't worry, I've been prescribed it before too.) It can have VERY pronounced mental health side effects, so if you aren't taking Accutane now, there's a good chance you're going to have a very different reaction to being high. I hope you enjoy it lots :)

Very true I tend to forget that not everyone is as lucky as I am haha. OP, if you do have medical marijuana in your state, you should really try a high CBD strain. That or ask around to see what strains people have (trustworthy dealers) and then google said strains to find out which ones are the lowest THC content.

You can also try looking into what makes you paranoid/anxious. If you can figure that out, it is easy to get rid of the paranoia all together.

^freehugs, I was just warning him a bit that even trustworthy dealers I've met at times tend to give weed names even if they aren't very sure, and since the OP hasn't smoked in a while, I just wanna warn him that he may not get the strain he thinks he's found. You are right, but lowest thc content can also equal someone giving him schwaggy shitty bud...just be careful OP :) We all think you're gonna be okay though, I'd just take the setting more serious this time than you had in the past, because as freehugs said, if the things that make you anxious/paranoid aren't around, you're less likely to be.

That's exactly why I mentioned making sure the dealer is trustworthy. I've been sold "Sweet honey hash" by a supposed friend, and it turned out to be a little hash pressed with brown sugar lmao
But OP, you should report back here after you smoke and let us know how it went :)

I got over the panic/anxiety pretty quickly <snip>

I think a lot of your anxiety/paranoia is caused by lack of tolerance. I would stick to high quality marijuana, no point in inhaling useless plant matter but have a friend test it out first if you don't know the strain. A regular smoker will be able to tell you what kind of high they get and from this you can determine if it's the right fit for you and just start very low (like a tiny bowl) and work your way up.

I ran across this today while reading up on jwh-018:

THC has been shown to inhibit GABA neurotransmission in the brain via several pathways.[17][18]
from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JWH-018

I believe this accounts for strains with high thc content causing anxiety/paranoia. I also once watched a documentary about a woman who went to Amsterdam to get really fucking high every day and document the effects. On one of the days she got shot up with pure THC and was anxious/paranoid as shit. The rest of the time she would smoke strong hash or cannabis and laugh her ass off which was funny, but nonetheless, makes sense given the above.

Thanks for all the responses/tips peeps ! Heavy, when I used to blaze, indoor and outdoor were how weed was graded. It's got worse now since I stopped puffing where I live, basically any really good weed is passed off as indoor and mediocre to disgustingly bad at times (I still like to smell people's bags and sections) is sold as outdoor, it's quite funny now with hindsight.

the exact same thing happened to me. i started getting a bit anxious and insecure when smoking before i was on accutane, but when i was on accutane for awhile i swear that stuff made me depressed and socially awkward. didnt want to go out or socialize. and smoking used to make me feel very uncomfortable

When you take rubbish psychiatric medications (like risperidone) that have more side effects than symptom relief, you'll wind up where you are now. Let's suppose that you took that medication for a genuine, indisputable condition; well, in that case, perhaps it's best you stay away from marijuana altogether as it can exacerbate things for people who already have moderate to severe psychological problems.
