Hello

Next month I have to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed at once.
Not because there's anything wrong with them or because they're causing me any issues, but because the medical establishment loves to do useless procedures to churn out some extra dollars. I would say no to it but I do have dental issues that I need my dentist to fix, so I guess I'm gonna have to do whatever they tell me to go do.

My question & worry is this; the oral surgeon has already stated that they DO give out a script for a narcotic afterwards.
Should I mention to them about needing something stronger due to my partial tolerance form the bupe? Or should I just keep my mouth shut (pun not intended) and not say anything at all & let them give me whatever they're gonna give me? I fear that if I say I need something stronger that they'll just accuse me of drug seeking & then not give me anything whatsoever.

I worry that they're just gonna throw me some measly tylenol 3's or hydrocodone but I highly doubt that's gonna help my pain whatsoever due to how weak of opioids they are.
And if they're gonna be ripping out parts of my body for no real necessary reason, then the least they could do is give me something decent.

They didn't mention what all they'd be putting out with either. I know propofol will prolly be in the mix, but from the videos I've seen of people after wisdom teeth removal, they seem pretty high as hell. And I didn't feel that way after they gave me propofol for a colonoscopy. So I assume they're going to use more than propofol. Could buprenorphine interfere with whatever else they're gonna use?

Unfortunately many doctors don't even really know what buprenorphine is or how it works, so I'm a little nervous about how this is going to go.

1. You shouldn't consent to the wisdom tooth removal. Be clear that you only want the other dental work done. Frankly, I would run for the fucking hills if there's legitimately nothing growing wrong with your wisdom teeth and they still want them gone. I had a shitty trash dentist straight up lie to me and say I had way more cavities than I actually did so he could split up the filling process into two separate days. The fillings were the shittiest I've ever had and the motherfucker decided to "fix" a chipped tooth that had been that way since I was 5, and which I never consented to. I went to a different dentist to finish the job and they said I didn't have any cavities left for them to fill. :) There's also that news story of the dentist who would straight up break people's teeth on purpose while they were out... Don't let people like this anywhere near your teeth.

2. They should have already asked you for your medication list before they do any procedure like this or prescribe any meds. It's actually dangerous if they're not even glancing at it.

3. Can't hurt to ask for more. They're not the ones prescribing your usual meds, so fuck them if they think you're drug seeking. Fuck them anyway. Cancel your appointment.

Ketamine is widely used anesthetic but you saying like it is private dentist even then you shoudl be able to say- hey dr. I'm taking buprenorphine for my opioid use for two years and or if you tokk?than fuck do what your guts tell you just try to say something about those wisdom teeth like can we try to see if I get swollen or they start to move and take other teeth but they are fuckin teeth I don't see they say without reason that is like: savage

Yeah this has me thinking twice.
The dentist said it would "make cleaning easier" to have them removed. They're sending me to an oral surgeon to get it done.

My only issue is that it's through state-insurance. So it was hard enough to find a dentist to even take my insurance in the first place. So I'm afraid of saying no & pissing them off, cause it won't be easy to jump over the another one. And I definitely need a lot of dental help. Today I got fillings (only the top left & a front tooth). I had a tooth in front that the enamel chipped off & it was totally ruining my smile. They filled that in today & it looks like a normal tooth now again. So I'm very happy about that.

They did say I had periodontal disease too & that I already had bone loss in my jaw & getting rid of my wisdom teeth was apparently needed for that. But I dunno.
The only reason I could find online to have them removed if they're not bothering you is because they can get cavities but cannot be filled in like your other teeth, so people just have them taken out anyway. So maybe they think they're going to cause me problems in the future due to the periodontal disease?? Not sure.

But yeah, my appt's not til the middle of next month, so I have some time to think about it & can cancel it & then just tell my dentist too bad. I wonder if I'd get billed for cancelling it since I had to wait for a month long process for my insurance to even approve it.

Yeah I did fill out paperwork & listed my meds. So I actually dunno what they'll think about the buprenorphine. Some doctors don't even really know what the hell is or how it works & some doctors might see "oh suboxone, let's not give that junkie any narcotics at all then".

I'm just worried about going through a pretty serious surgery, in my mouth and then being left in tremendous pain. Plus I'm a heavy smoker & if they think I'm not gonna smoke for a week straight afterwards, they're crazy. So I'll risk a dry socket as well.

I dunno, seems like a lot to go through for teeth that aren't even impacted or bothering me. But maybe it could be worth it. Fuck.. I really need to think about it.
