Country music legend Willie Nelson has been arrested for cannabis possession at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.

He was allegedly carrying six ounces of the drug when his tour bus was stopped in Sierra Blanca, Texas as he travelled from California to Austin.

Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West told the station that Nelson was booked into the County Jail after a search discovered the drugs.

The 77-year-old posted a $2,500 bail and continued with the journey later the same day.

Yes, lets arrest 77 year old men for pot rather than focusing those resources on finding weapons, bombs, and catching actual criminals.

Great job, well done. I sure as shit feel safer.

Yeah, exactly, how many bombs or terrorist watch list-es were caught that day?

Fuckin waste of money

At least they kept the bail lowish

Those cops are certainly protecting and serving the public that is for sure. God knows what a 77 year old famous country singer might do all hopped up on that crazy weed 8)

I remember a while back when his tour bus was pulled over and he was caught with shrooms and weed... Imagine the people at the jail when willie nelson walked in, I bet they knew right away what he was there for =D

he was caught with SIX ounces on him... i'm suprised they just let him go for such a low bail.

last time when they found a similar amount and shrooms

they said "normally this would be distribution weight, but this is obviously personal stash, this is normal for theese guys"

if they get caught in texas, theres obviously
alot
of the cops listen to, fucking willie

6 oz's isnt much in Texas actually, because there's a large schwag market. That would be about 200 bucks worth of schwag, hence no biggie in Texas.

While fellow Texans — including Kinky Friedman and Texas lawyer Dick DeGuerin — have expressed outrage at the Hudspeth County sheriff that busted Nelson on a marijuana charge Nov. 26, Willie Nelson himself has responded differently: On his website, he's asking fans to donate to the Hudspeth County Sherriff's Office's annual Christmas toy drive.

"For what it's worth, we appreciate the mention and we're glad to take any donations for the children of Hudspeth County," Chief Deputy Mike Doyal of the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department tells Rolling Stone. "We think that's pretty good."

Doyal was at the sheriff's office when Nelson was booked, and says he was surprised by the remarkable media response. "He had a little bag of marijuana and I would never have dreamed of the coverage it got," he says. "Nonetheless, we've got a job to do and we've got to do what we've got to do."

He adds: "We handled it as easily as we could and still do our job. The man's, what, 77 years old? What are we gonna do to him? He was very cooperative and nice and pleasant to be around."

Nelson is charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a maximum penalty of one year and a fine of $4,000. "I'm betting it doesn't go there, but that's between him and the county attorney," Doyal said. "We did our part. Now it's up to the lawyers and the judges."

Meanwhile, Willie's friend Snoop Dogg — watch them perform "Superman" in Amsterdam in 2008 — has spoken to TMZ about the arrest. "They better leave Willie the fuck alone, man," Snoop said. "Willie Nelson is a legend. Sometimes you need to back up off of certain people and have a certain amount of respect for your elders. And Willie Nelson is our elder."

He added: "Willie Nelson is my people," he added. "If you got a problem with Willie Nelson, you got a problem with me."

Somehow i e doubt that Willie nelson smokes shwag.

Now the question is why do you need 6 ounces of pot in your tour bus?

You know, honestly my opinion on this aint the "Go willie nelson!" type replies that i seen in here so far.

This aint the first time this happened. it seems like dude actually WANTS to get caught. I get the idea that he is doin some "activist" type shit-- tryna show that weed dont deserve to be illegal by allowin himself to get caught on the regular as a 'fuck you to the man' or some shit like that.

I get kinda pissed that he does this and is able to just get out of it so easy. some people TRY to NOT get caught and end up in trouble or in jail over some bullshit but meanwhile , here dude is puttin himself right out there just askin to get caught and gettin hit with charges kinda on the regular and he just gets off and gets to 'take a stand' or "make a point" and then go on with his life. That dont seem fair to me.

I aint got nothin against people standing up for the shit they believe in. BUT--When the consequences of doing that are very small it takes on less meaning. For a person who is a regular citizen who got everything to lose takin actions like this would mean a whole lot more. For someone in his situation honestly to me this just kinda seems dumb. :\
