Will your family name continue?

well this is something i have an issue with.
its not that my family name will not continue, i have two brothers one of which already has a son with our surname, and im sure my other brother will have kids in the future and they will have his name too.
but its more me changing my name

now i dont have the nicest sounding surname, its actually pretty shit and ive always hated it, but i dont get along very well with my boyfriends family, and if we happen to get married one day ill have to change my name to THEIR name. its sort of like snubbing my family and accepting his, well thats what i feel anyway, i feel like ill be more of a part of his family, rather than of mine. and seeing as i dont like them very much, thats not a good thing.

but i was talking to my mum about it, about how i think i want my kids to have my name, and she was saying stuff like "people will always be asking you whether he is the father etc. if they dont have his name"
which is entirely true, but even tho my current boyfriend has quite a nice last name, its like im not part of my own family anymore.
but if my b/f had a incredibly horrible name i wouldnt change mine. and i really dont like hypenated names, too long to write :)

but i suppose if i become famous before then i wont have to change it, and ill have a good reason.

Never a Fealla is cute!

Nearly 4 years ago Maxload was in trouble.

"You motherfucker! You just wanted a little fun and now I'm lying here and my insides are bursting out and my vagina will never look the same again again!"
Maxload was unsettled. He wished he had taken the option of heading to the pub with his friends instead of racing to the hospital. Maxload's Dad looked like the smartest man alive.

Then Minimumload was born and Max thought his name will last forever.

Then he realised that little Y Chromosome carrying creatures will one day take his little girl away. So Max decided that a shotgun was a good investment. But who would drive Max home from the Big Day Out after he moshed all day under the sun?

And the Motherload looks hot in a short skirt and long jacket.

Max is no camel.

So Max is a sucker for punishment. The Motherload is loaded and a little Load is......well Loaded. We will call him, Reload!

(You can thank Muzby for that name ;)

So what is in a name? Both Loads will carry my name until they get married. Yet both can change it by deed poll anyway. My true legacy will be judged by their ability on the ski slopes, their love of Reggea, and the ability to construct a cone from an apple core

Okay, it sucks that my beautiful female friends feel that their name will not be passed on to thier offspring, but you get to experience alot more with your children than any sperm donor will be able to give. Just cut us a break and let us pass on our surname. After all, we are the one who will have to pay for the wedding anyway.

And yes I have learnt my lesson and I am heading to the pub this time. Viva the revolution!!!

my grandparents had 10 kids... 7 girls and 3 boys... one of the boys had a boy, who has since decided not to have kids... the next boy had two girls... the final boy had none. My mother never married, and hence i kept my grandfathers name. Me and my brother are the last two males carrying the name of child bearing age... I'm fkn hopeless when it comes to relationships, and my bro... well, we'll have to wait and see. Luckily, I am Jesus Christ reborn... and in the future my name will live on for many more ages than you suckers... :P

well, that and i want to write, which will hopefully carry the name forwards. It's not erally that important to me, but just in case it was important the my grandpa... of course it's a pretty scrappy last name... wonder what it would have been like to be a 'Tailor'... teeh, my initials would have been TT, instead of TM, which i much prefer. Auto trademark!

the only thing thats gets to me about it is that my surname is very unique... like in all of australia there are very few with the name... very few, including those related to me. would anyone consider it a shame for the name 'Marsh' to be lost? I mean, we no longer come from swamps, so you'd think not, right? but then there was moses :P

in my family it all comes down to me, & it's not looking good so far:(
but then again i almost changed it a few years ago, so the thought of it not keeping going doesn't really bother me. silly last name anyway, to hard to spell.

My last name will live on... I think... in some form.

I have a brother, though I doubt he'll be breeding anytime soon.

My sister is married and kept her last name. Their children will have hyphenated last names: her last name-his last name.

I have a bit of a problem with changing my surname to my future husband's, so I'm fairly sure I'll be keeping it. What my children will do I don't know... hell, I'm not certain that I'll have children.

Mine will live on, one brother, and three guy cousins of which two have begun reproducing (2 girls & 1 boy).....however, there are 9 of us girls with the name that most likely won't keep the name assuming we marry.

Alot less australians are having as many kids as they used to back in the day.
Most families i see today have 1, 2 or 3 kids. There must be heaps of surnames just disappearing randomly :S

I think my nan was one of 8 kids?

^^ I agree. Both my parents are from 5+ families.

Yep.
I am my families only hope though!
My fathers only brother had one son, and he had his last name changed, so pretty much I'm the only one that will continue the family name.

Don't you love pressure. :\

Just got married about 2 1/2 months back, my wife took my name...we have a boy from a previour relationship of hers, so he has her maiden name. But he is keen to change it we think to our name when he can (i think he's allowed at 11years old?).

So yeah, my Irish roots will be evident for a while to come :)

I'm about 99.99% sure that mine won't. For me there's the aforementioned "likes rooting guys rather than girls" thing that gets in the way of having kids and my brother and his girlfriend can't for medical reasons.

I guess I'm less attached to my surname and the idea of a traditional family than a lot of people though...my sister, my brother and I all have different fathers and we've known this from the word go being that there's several years between all of us - my sister came along first and even though her dad never married our mum, Mum adopted his surname because she liked it better than her own and she decided she was going to call all her kids the same surname no matter what their dropkick fathers might think about it. ;)

So really, not only is my surname not my father's, it's not even my mother's genealogically. It's not like I have some big legacy to pass down.

On the downside, BECAUSE my father was a dropkick, Mum wouldn't let him have his name on my birth certificate so now I can't get a UK passport. Boo.

C'est la vie I guess.... :\

He may carry it,

I'm somebody now, Harry. Everybody likes me. Soon, millions of people will see me and they'll all like me. I'll tell them about you, and your father, how good he was to us. Remember? It's a reason to get up in the morning. It's a reason to lose weight, to fit in the red dress. It's a reason to smile. It makes tomorrow all right. What have I got Harry, hm? Why should I even make the bed, or wash the dishes? I do them, but why should I? I'm alone. Your father's gone, you're gone. I got no one to care for. What have I got, Harry? I'm lonely. I'm old.

You got friends, Ma.

Ah, it's not the same. They don't need me. I like the way I feel. I like thinking about the red dress and the television and you and your father. Now when I get the sun, I smile.

^^ just reading that freaks me out again. I've only seen the movie once, and that was enough for me (brilliant as it was)...

I was pondering this subject again (as i occasionally do, in my more sobre states) and i realized...

1/3 marriages end in divorce, you know one day, many many moons in the future your brother may have a new wife who is capable of producing a mini-raz!

But i also didnt take into account Single mothers and bastard kids, they would also carry on their mothers Maiden name?

I know a few single mothers and people who are in a 2 or 3 year relationship and have a kid but arnt married
