I have been smoking $x of black tar heroin a day for 2 years and need to get off now. Will xanax help?
Thanks to anyone who replies.

It won't take away any of the withdraw symptoms but it may help you relax and possibly get some sleep. It should also help with RLS. Just be careful not to switch addictions. Only use them when absolutely necessary.

You'd be better off with a longer acting benzo like valium, which not only has the benfit of muscle relaxing properties but a long half life which will prevent you from getting strung out like you can on a short acting benzo like xanax.

I disagree about the valium, xanax is an absolute necessity for kicking. I've found some immodium, weed, and xanax with some food thats easy to make and eat within three days you'l be feeling much better. A huge amount of the sickness is mental, so try to distract yourself. I'm not saying go out to a bar or go to work, that would be hell, but avoid just sitting watching tv and thinking about how sick you are. Sit by a pool, draw in a park, and taking showers/baths makes you feel amazing...almost better for a second. And i've found masturbating helps too... there, I said it.
