Will recent tramadol use kill a trip?

How does tramadol effect lsd and psilocybin experiences?

I am planning on tripping this weekend, I have access to both mushrooms and lsd. Sadly, I am addicted to tramadol, and use about 300 mgs daily. The last time I dropped acid, I did not have much of an experience, but from what I heard it was good stuff. I have heard that tramadol's ssri effects can effect and diminish the experience of lsd, I'm not sure about psilocybin. I'm wondering how long I should stay off the tram to get an effect. Anyone have experience with this?

I don't have experience with the combo, but I do have experience with tramadol. It's fun, but since I'm a recovering heroin addict, I cannot and do not want to use it. I recommend that you wean yourself off of it. It's a lot easier of a withdrawal than true opiates. I only had 2 restless nights when coming off a 700 or so mg/day habit. Withdrawal sucks in jail, but I've dt'd off dope in jail several times and it was a lot worse.

My detox from tramadol went as follows: I went directly from 700 mg/day to 200 mg the next day. Then down to 100 mg/day for two days. I had 2 or 3 restless nights, then I was fine, except for a bit of anxiety. No sweats or nausea/diarrhea. So if you want to trip, You'll have to do something like that and then go clean for a while. Tripping's worth the trouble, and so's not being dependent on that crap. Free your body!! peace and love, bro, and good luck
 
100mg of tramadol with LSD caused Serotonin Syndrome in me. I would strongly advise against it. I am also on a tram script and take up to 400mg a day now but if I want to trip I skip it for 24 hours either side. It's not an ideal solution by any means but SS can be lethal and even if not it was the single most painful, terrifying and horrific experience of my life.

Oddly enough I was just talking about it in another thread. I described what happened the day after taking it here (post #491 onwards).

Trypts don't seem to cause any problems so I'd go for the shrooms if you can't face skipping the tram. Have never taken shrooms with tram though so no idea if it would actually be safe. 4-AcO-DMT was okay though for me. I find tramadol tends to potentiate psyches that it is reasonably safe to take with. I wouldn't go near LSD with tramadol in my system though.
 
Tramadol (100-150mg daily every other day) did nothing to effect a DPT experience I had. I had only taken it the day before and 2 other days that week though, so regular use may have a different effect. Not exactly the answer to the question you were asking, but I feel like I should put it out there anyways.
 
I'm perscribed tramadol for chronic pain and take 300mgs daily. I have done mushrooms while on it many times and it only very slightly if at all affected the strengh of the trip. I also had no bad interactions. You should be fine but stilll read more into the combo
 
Don't think it will ruin the trip so much as cushioning it, but honestly the way tramadol feels makes me wanna stay away from serotonergic drugs I can't really explain it. It's this sort of sweaty head pressurey feeling that reminds me of DXM and may therefore be a SRI symptom that is probably a terrible idea with something like MDMA but still a potentially bad idea with LSD.

Granted, LSD is not a serotonin releaser and Shambles' reaction is not readily explained as such - it still involves serotonergic action that may be localized and which may therefore drain serotonin from other localized regions (it's got to come from somewhere people) when it stays longer in the synaptic cleft which increases risk of SS, seizures, epileptic fits or brain zaps.
Just reasoning out loud I guess so not sure how much bigger your risks are, still you won't see me near a serotonergic drug when I am on tramadol, especially a significant amount.
 
thanks for all the responses. I ended up dosing acid this weekend, and it all went very well. I stopped the tramadol about 26 hours before the trip. I didn't feel any symptoms of serotonin syndrome, and had intense visuals as well as profound thoughts.
 
I got serotonin syndrome when i took some lsd one night after taking tramadol during the day. I only took one 50 mg tramadol too.

I like how everyone says they have had serotonin syndrome but when they start describing the symptoms they had, it always sounds much more like a really bad trip. They never report body temp increases (as in actual measured increases- some say they're hot and sweaty, but that doesn't necessarily mean body temp has risen.
 
I would be wary merely based on Tramadol's ability to decrease the seizure threshold and actually induce seizures at doses exceeding 250-300mg when administered alone, and the limited knowledge regarding its serotonergic-modulating properties.

If you are addicted to Tramadol you should perhaps consider a different drug of choice (or no drug at all!) Tramadol doesn't hold a candle to any of the truer opioids and its high is certainly not worth the risk of seizure. Additionally, taper and withdrawal from Tramadol is next to nothing. If one can fall into such a minor addiction then a stronger opiate or opioid such as oxycodone or even codeine could perhaps be troublesome.

@Ham, personally I am not sure if a "mild" serotonin syndrome is possible or if it is something different these people are describing. From a theoretical standpoint it would be interesting to find out what to label this adverse reaction people are getting.

But if it makes people even speak of serotonin syndrome is it not more important to consider that it designates a pretty afwul feeling, however dangerous it is? A bad trip is very vague, reacting badly in a panic attack like way because of very discomfortable physical feelings is to me something different than getting negative psychological reactions to your mental set and the setting.

Anyway it doesn't change the fact that I really don't want to take tramadol together with a good number of other drugs.

LSD is a tryptamine...
 
Despite that it has a distinct pharmacological profile that differs in ways from substituted tryptamines that are not ergoloid.

I would think though that the serotonergic action is the problem, so all tryptamines and psychedelic phenethylamines would probably be a bad move. The fact that Shambles did not have a problem with shrooms/tryptamines does not prove that you cannot get any problems.
