(answered) Why were the "what are you listening to" threads closed?

I rather enjoyed seeing other people's favourite music choices. Just curious why those threads were closed. :(
 
where else am I supposed to post links and not listen to anything else in the thread now?

Are you referring to any specific forum? I ask because several different forums have hosted threads with that same title and some of them are still open.
EADD has this thread that is currently open, as is this one in The Lounge.

There may be some other forums that host threads of the same title which is why I ask which forum you are referring to.
 
i am guessing she is talking about the NEMD thread? it was being used by only a handful of people who were seemingly posting links/videos just to boost their post count.
 
I never posted something I didnt think other people would like, post count had nothing to do with it.

Sorry. I didn't realize this was generating so many responses and questions as to why they were closed.
They were closed because, like a_c, they were being used by only a handful of people to post as much as they could. Maybe for the post count? Maybe because they don't know how to put the meth pipe down? Really, I don't know. But I do know that the threads became useless. Posting two video links every 45 seconds.. No one is listening to two songs at once and then changing to another 2 every 45 seconds.
I'd prefer if NEMD was used to generate discussion. I'd love to see some "Genre Discussion Threads." Where surely, links can be provided. But that shouldn't be the sole purpose. People should use them as a way to connect with people with similar tastes.

I did report on the abuse of the threads from a particular member. I didn't make an announcement, but there was definitely some indication that it was coming to a halt.

That's because the threads were in the same fashion. Just a place to dump links no one will ever click.

I know that at least I was never contacted by anyone asking why. So I hope I'm not being seen as an incompetent mod for not responding to PMs. There were no PMs.


There are what are you listening to threads elsewhere on the board. Utilize them I suppose. I'd prefer discussion in NEMD.

except now it's just going to be nobody posting at all instead of you trying to pigeonhole people into what you want them to do. I was under the impression moderators were suppose to, you know, moderate and not force their opinion as gospel onto people. How do you know what people get out of those links? For every person who quoted one and said "that was good" there could be seven who had the same opinion but said nothing.

And im only saying this because I feel like you guys have had it out for me from the day I started posting in there, as if I was the one who needed help finding good music

but it is your forum so if that's what you want to do...
 
Whoa dude. Seriously this has absolutely not a single thing to do with you or your presence in NEMD. And I see your point but are you just going to get defensive and not see my point? If you think people will abandon it, so be it. I think Genre Discussion Threads would allow for people to get MORE out of a pasted link. I'm not saying to hell with link pasting and sharing music, not at all. I'm trying to see if we can do it in a more friendly matter. This is the reason I left the "Rate The Song Above You" thread open. Because I feel like the demeanor helps us get to know each other a little better by forcing someone to listen to what you want to share. Please keep in mind that thread is still open.
If threads were made about specific genres then that would help people get to what they want quicker and would probably generate actual discussions. Do you not see that aspect at all? Do you think I'm just aiming for faux dictatorship or something? Because I'm not, I'd like to see more interaction.

And I don't know why you think this has to do with you or me being after you. I don't have any idea what that is about. I always thought we were on pretty cool terms for posters that don't interact all that much. If you have problems with some specific mods, it's not all mods, and I'm definitely not included in that. When I mentioned a specific poster, it was not you.
 
I'm not going to make a big deal out of it because I really don't listen to what other people post so you are absolutely right
