Why the loss of hearing on coke? And Ritalin

Someone else mentioned the loss of hearing when on coke, well, why is this?
And the pharmaceutical equivelent to coke would be ritalin, right? Now I have tried both and I would have to say that ritalin is better than coke. I haven't had methyl in like 5 years, but I remember it goes well with alcohol. I also read that ritalin works on the same receptors that cocaine does. I will find the quote later. But if this is true could one substitue one for the other?

ritalin (methylphenidate) is similar to both cocaine and amphetamine, but it's not really a pharmacutecal equivalent. cocaine HCl is still, however rarely, used in dental work i believe. ritalin is weaker than cocaine.
on the same note, though, ritalin was prescribed to recovering cocaine addicts to help slowly wean them off of coke. so yes, it could be used as a substitute to coke, though it's not a very good one.
 
I think both cocaine and ritalin block the reuptake of dopamine, which may account for similarities between the two. However, while blocking the reuptake, ritalin promotes the release of stored dopamine and norepinephrine, giving the effect of both amphetamine and cocaine.
They aren't structurally similar, as ritalin has a phenethylamine backbone, like amphetamine. They just feel similar.

No actually I think the coke that I got is pretty good. I was younger back then and from MY MEMORY I thought it was better so stfu.

Saying coke is better then ritalin is like comparing apples and oranges. A few people enjoy ritalin more (me for one) and many more enjoy cola more. As for the loss of hearing, never had it on ritalin. Also, ritalin IS more potent. I'll post a link to a article on the bottom of my post. Mostly however, I think if people tried an IV of methylphenidate, they would change their minds.

^^ this really isn't really ground-breaking news, I think it was known for a long time that methyl worked on the dopamine system like most of ADD/ADHD medication did.
Its sad that janitors stone this stuff from the nurses office when the kids were away..
 
meister -- Ritalin and cocaine are alot more similar than you think.
They BOTH inhibit the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, in an almost identical biochemical fashion. The only real differences (pharmacologically) between the two is that ritalin lasts longer and is weaker in effects
 
Hmm...riatlin causes them too weird.
I would have guessed that it was due to the Na+ channell blocking effects of coke (essentially stops some nerves from firing). Meth and E both block serotonin and dopamine reuptake to varying degrees and while E gives you a psychedelic type effect neither of them seem to produce anything like the IV coke change in hearing.
Maybe ritalin has some effects on Na+ channels as well but I didn't think so.
 
Yes they both block reuptake, but ritalin does more than just that. Ritalin may also act on serotonin transmitters, which cocaine doesnt.
Subjectively the effects are similar to cocaine, but structurally they have no real similarities. They sure feel similar, and I am one of those who may prefer ritalin over cocaine.
 
To answer the ORIGINAL question, I believe it has to do with the hard snorting action you put your sinuses through.This in turn can lead to ears poping and such, causing an effect on the ear.

^ You are a fucking moron. Ever tried injecting alot of coke? I am waiting for someone who has tried injecting alot of ritalin to tell me if the effect is real with ritalin.
Ohh and yes cocaine blocks reuptake of serotonin pretty significantly. Don't know about ritalin.
I still think it has to do with the Na+ channell blocking
 
dudes, coke just simply sucks! i dont understand why anyone would waste money on something they have to do a line 6 inches long to get an effect and then have to do it again in 20 minutes! meth is so much better and worth your while!
 
Ritalin is nothing like blow. Like twitching said above there really is no pharmacutical equal to either pure blow or speed. The high, however, is more along the lines of meth but nothing compared to the real deal. Coke does not suck, it's that most people have such high expectations that when they finally do it the experience a great let down. As far as loss of hearing is concerned I have never experienced this while using. It is actualy quite the opposit for me...
 
i hope you havent been blowin lines of sugar or something. theres no way if you had coke you would think rit is better.
 
jesus people, he didnt ask if you thought coke was better than ritalin, he said HE THOUGHT ritalin was better. who gives a shit if thats how he feels? he also asked why the hearing loss in coke, and if ritalin does something similar, which im also curious about. 15 or 16 flaming replies are getting us nowhere, and most of you know better.
