Why the hell are there so many painkillers?

For real, theres more types of painkillers than any other drug. I understand that there needs to be stronger and weaker ones, but holy shit, theres hundreds of them! you think thats enough?

That's probably because it's profitable to develop new analgesic formulations. Laws of supply and demand, you know...

Look atPiHKAL and TiHKAL. Opiates aren't the only class of drug with that many compounds. There are a shit load of benzos too.
