I used to feel that way, then my boy bought an ADS for like <no goddamn prices - chainer>. At first I thought it was stupid decision, I now am attached to that bong..its well worth it, a few hits and your feeling right. The glass is also much thicker, I have tipped it over so many times and it so many times..still has yet to crack or break.

^^^ I dropped my acrylic bong down stairs and onto tile floors without any problem and I paid <no goddamn prices - chainer> for it. Granted, its not as pleasing on the eye and Im assuming the smell would probabl be a bit nicer inside the glass bong but that, to me, isnt worth as much as a Roor. There isnt anything a Roor can do that an acrylic cant as far as I know. Lol i just dont get it.

Trust me you'll know when you toke it. I Bought a cheapish glass one, cost me about <no goddamn prices - chainer> notes. Was a lot smoother than my old plastic one but then it tippled over and smashed. My friend however who spent just over <no goddamn prices - chainer> coins on his. That fuckers fell down the stairs and survived.

Goddamn. My mate broke a Roor once and had to buy a new stem/downpipe and ended up spendin over <no goddamn prices - chainer> AUD for the parts. Thats crazy money man, especially given the price of weed in Australia. Its not like the good old days in England... :(

Once you smoke a nice bong, there really is no comparison. Thick glass tubing, percolators, diffusers, no rubber on any of the joints, all glass on glass. It is so fuckin great! Try one out and you wont go back to acrylic or cheap glass. My friend has a real nice 300$ glass-on-glass PHX, and it doesnt feel nice to smoke anything else.

I have often asked myself this question. I get paying like <no goddamn prices - chainer> or so on a nice glass piece but really even a <no goddamn prices - chainer> springer does the job absolutely fine. RooRs and shit are crazy expensive, never used one but can't imagine it being worth THAT much extra money.
I have bought some nice glass pieces for under <no goddamn prices - chainer> that there was absolutely nothing wrong with and lasted me a long time.
Funny you should comment on weed prices in Australia, I have always considered it to be one of few if not the only illicit drug that isn't really overpriced relative to the rest of the world.

Aesthetics, cleaner taste, bigger hits, diffusers/percs and glass-on-glass joints.

Try something nice and then get back to me.:)

The difference between branded bongs, like RooR and GEAR, and regular ones is the glass-on-glass connection between the bong, stem and bowl. By eliminating plastics and rubber or metal they significantly improve the bubbling ability; through the stem, are very "smooth but deadly" and improve the taste of your pot. I noticed a major difference in quality when I finally sprung for a glass on glass bong and use mine multiple times everyday, I even use less because after a few FAT rips im gonzo.

Guys, no price discussion. Much appreciated.

In fact, let's stay away from specific price quotations for paraphernalia too while we're at it.

Roors' get you extra Ripped-off. Theirs no excuse for anyone to charge near that much for a quality piece of hand blown unless its:
A.made of gold
B. contains a time machine like device
OR
C. you slept with the sellers wife & they really hate you.

I've smoked a good many but when it breaks down theirs still no excuse so RooR-From the bottom of my black & tarnished heart, Fuck you!

Having hit ROORs before (the real ones with the frosted logo, not the sticker) I can say that expensive glass really is worth it. A good glass on glass bong rips harder, clears easier, and gets you higher without getting water in your mouth. Personally I save my money to spend on vaporizers though. I have a knock off volcano style vape that works pretty damn well, and a standard whip and hose model next to my bed. I recently broke a bong I had had for well over a year and dropped many times. It was a thick, handblown, green piece with a glass-on-glass downstem stuck in it. It finally broke when the cat ran into it full speed and knocked it onto the tile for, like, the third time. When I have to go out any buy a new bong I tend to shop for HVY, WRKD, or similar pieces. I can usually find a HVY with a few minor flaws and no stamp for around $<no goddamn prices - chainer>. They tend to range from $<no goddamn prices - chainer>to <no goddamn prices - chainer>or $<no goddamn prices - chainer>for the newer WRKD ones that are all glass on glass. Glass beats the shit out of acrylic any day in my book, and a good heavy bong tends to smoke cooler smoother. Here's a few things I look for when I shop for a new water pipe. It should be...
-Heavy for its size
-Free of too much work in the tube and bubble (the more detail there is on a pipe, the more stress the blower had to put on the glass and the most likely it is the break)
-Natural ice catch (these look like someone pushed in part of the tube with their thumb, usually just above the slide. I prefer these ice catches because they generally leave more space in the tube to fill with ice, they are less likely to break than the three point style ice catch, and they let more smoke through at a time than the ones that look like a disc sitting in the middle of the tube.
-Free of cracks (check around where the downstem attaches to the tube especially)

Beyond that its just style decisions. What color, what size, that kind of thing. Happy toking!

I work in a headshop, and i always laugh inside at the people (usually dumb jocks or stoners with nothing else in life) who spend over 100 dollars on a bong... yeah it may look cooler, last longer, give you a smoother hit (but at what cost? smoother doesn't always mean better or more healthy). I bought a $<no goddamn prices - chainer>bong that comes with a black case, similar in size to a clarinet case, and this bong lasted me 2 years until I lost it. Glass on glass, works fine, kinda fragile but that's what storing it in the case is for. I don't see why someone wouldn't spend the money on either more weed or a vaporizer.

I work in an independant headshop, and we mark our stuff up no more than 100%, while most other headshops mark up 150-200%... don't be fooled.

Why? because it'll RooR's last forever, and they kick ass.

but vape's are still the most awesome.

I think that's the crux of it.

The main performance-related issue is really the GonG joint (although there are also percolators, like the phx posted above). You can get one of those on a relatively inexpensive, generic bong these days, and it'll be all you really need.

Every other difference is largely aesthetic (better looking, thicker glass, hand-blown designs, brand name, etc.), but they're still differences that some people might show a preference for. I have a large, thick, kinda-fancy hand-blown tube that I spent a little extra money on. Some of the money I paid because it has functional features like the GonG joint, diffusers and diffused ash-catcher. But some of the money, I'm not ashamed to say, was for how it looks and feels. I've had it for 4 years. Used it about 1000 times (have since started using a heat-gun to vape w/it more often than not). So I'm throwing in about ten cents per use in order to have a great looking pipe, and I have no problem with that.

Glass on glass does make a huge difference. Not only is the seal better, its easier to clean.
