why new jersey have so many ghettos?

Hm, I lived in Jersey for 8 years, I always thought Camden was the worst as far as 'ghetto's are concerned. My cousin came to Indiana (where I am now) to visit me, he said he felt soo safe! But he hangs out in Philly, Camden, AC. He's got that Philly lingo that I just love! Wuter.
 
^^ for real.. Camden is a shithole.. this kid that I went to college with was from Newark and he said, 'Yah dawg.. Camden's bad'
 
Yeah, I live right near Newark, Elizabeth, and Irvington which are pretty bad, but my town is actually pretty upper-class. A lot of nice places in Bergen county and a lot of nice camping up north.
 
I just got back from Atlantic City and I have to say that theres a definate economic caste system in place. Either your rich or your barely scrapping by. Correct me if Im wrong but when you add the casino factor, the social economic problems increase. JMO
 
i cant remember exact statistics but i read in the paper awhile ago that Nj im pretty sure is in the top 3 states in the country whose disparity btween rich and poor is the highest in the nation (its correct i just cant remmber if its # 1 2 or 3)

So basically if you makin it you makin it but if you aint you SOL

I dont give a shit what pplsay though new jersey is a crazy ass state and ill still love it cuz its what i call home. its got something of everything where else has mountains and skiing, big ass cities, farmlands, the shore (nothin like the jersey shore man nothin) a bangin nite life if you aint out in the sticks, plus alot of other shit i cant think of, plus enough drugs in it at any given time to supply 3 states =P

Yea and reading some of the shit from the beginning i still dont get what the fuck noodle was talking about but im glad the rest of yall are understanding what my question was glad 2 see this shit bumped back up
 
I'm from Newark, man. I loved it there, I don't remember why though, since everytime i go back it seems like such crap.
It was actually rated "The Worst City In the US to Raise Your Kids" in 99 or something.
I think New Jersey IS purgatory.:\

it is kinda funny that there are no HUGE cities in new jersey but it does contain like 5 cities that would scare the shit out of a lot of people (camden, trenton, newark, paterson, parts of JC)
 
The other thing though is in Every NJ hood city, there is a nice section. In newark there is forest hill, northwest of branchburg park, sort of by the border of bloomfield (nice part of bloomfield, that is, most of bloomfield is just an extension of newark). There are lots of 19th century mansions in that section. Only problem is there are projects like 5 blocks away, but thats why you get a nice big gate in front of your house. Paterson has eastside, the mansions along eastside part are beauuutiful. Ive always wanted to live there. Trenton, in my opinion is the worst city in NJ. I lived in ewing which is pretty hood, but spent a lot of time in trenton. I read last week that trenton has a 20% unemployment rate, the highest in NJ, thats higher than the rate in the 4th ward, the worst part of ptown. It doesnt surprise me at all... I got robbed so many times in trenton. People there will do just about anything for $20. Its crazy. But like the other cities it has a really nice area, with the typical centuries old mansions.

Oh, another hood is passaic. I hate that town. Elizabeth is also underrated in its ghettoness, that place is hood. It seems like no matter where you live in etown theres airplanes flying into newark airport like 50 feet over your house. All the houses there have like black shit on the roof tiles from all the jet fuel exhaust comin off those planes. Thats when you know youre in the hood, ha.

I love NJ though... I live in the northeast part of the state in bergen county. There is no hood in bergen and a lot of towns are super-rich, some of the richest in the country (alpine, where the AVERAge house costs 3.4 million. But its great because where I live you can still find really nice and safe areas where the rent is low (i pay 550 for a 1 br apt)

yo dont knock passaic, Alot of my girls live there and I love shoppin downtown, They got the best spots cuz the parking is only 25 cents for 20 minutes and that whole strip along main and lex got some good stores. I rather shop downtown paterson but u cant park for shit down on broadway n all that so i always hitup passaic. Ninas, paula store, Expo 2000, 10 spot is the bullshit but u will find some good shit there sometimes.....There is a hot azz sneaker place tho. I got my earrings down at the corner jewlery store the nice one wiht the turkish/russian type dudes runnin it.

U right about eastsid,e in paterson As Soon as you cross over east 33rd on 11th ave and it go up to e.34th, 335th, etc, its nice as fuck. One time when I was walkin down 11th ave by 28th some whiteboy tried to holla at me. He was like ay girl u fine, and I said wat the fuck u doin over here boy this aint your hood, he like no it aint, i live over there (pointed to the nice houses behind Mira Mira 99 Cent and D&D parking l ots) and goes, Im a model yo! I said well then take ya modellin ass down the block then cuz I fuck with a hood nigga lol.

Anyways, passaic really aint that much hood at all. I dont get why ppl be talking s hit about it, as far as hood goes it really aint too hood. People be hatin cuz theres alot of mexicanos where as the rest of paterson and etc is PR, Dominican, cuban, etc but i dont see why the hate that shit is ignorant. Anyways, Ever been to Aspen projects in passaic? They are nice as fuck. Dont get me wrong, they projects, but u can go up in there and the eleveator dont even smell like piss til l ike 9 at night. Like as far as i am concerned if ur projects got empty stair wells, and no graffiti all over the inside walls then they are pretty nice. Building 4 is where i spent alot of time apt 4H.

And Now lookin back on this thread its funny , cuz me and BKR is friends now and me and Noodle is about to meet up at the dirty jerz blmeetup lol. I think he judged the fact that I stay livin up in farm country for the past few years and thought I was from the country and tryna act hood or watever. haha tho, Paterson is the main spot I spent my time at and around, All I can say is Come See Me in the 4th ward bitches, I am always up in mcdonalds and chillen over on hamilton-one end of hamilton when Im in passaic cty superior court, and all the way the other end by summer and carroll in the 4th when Im hangin with my girls lol. or 17th and 23rd, rosa parks, I will even post a pic of my old house I stayed in on North 3rd

Gotta love northside.....It sucked tho cuz it was winter time and wasnt no heat inthe crib, and there was only 1 light so u had to move it around to watever room u wasin at the time. There was a badass brown pit that lived in that fenced lot next to us called bruno. Ah the memories.........

The funny thing tho is when i was stayin in the house in the 2 pics above the godwin ave one, i never seen no ppl comin around to cop. Northside area of paterson is jus weird like that. Ive heard ppl talk about a couple streets up on the hill there, but its jus a sad feeling becuz all that whole hood is just covered with garbage like everybody forgot about it as soon as they crossed over the bridge by the Towers. 4th ward is hood but wat i like about it is how everybodys always out all over the place, ppl is chillin on the block, its a good vibe.

but when i lived on n.3rd it was depressing becuz nobody was ever really out much it was more of a abandoned area that ppl just forgot was there or somethin. u can see from the pic it aint got the usual paterson style its more liike wat paterson might look like a year after everyone in the city died and thats wat would be left behind or somethin. Anyways, Im jus ramblin on now, I know most of yall never went over the bridge (the one by lafayette and straight st) becuz if anybody on here had bizness in paterson i am sure I know the area you was around, and that wouldnt be the spot im talkin about. And i woulddnt recommend drivin over there around east main and all that hood there is not alot of white folks once u get up the hill, I never been to detroit but sometimes certain places along there made me think of detroit like genes liquors and that strip there...o well anyways.....I dont even kno wat im doin talkin to my fool self about this shit....peace.....
 
i think its best to get a foreigner's perspective. specifically, a canadian's. we are similar to american just way less fucked/populated/warm/rich/poor (???), so it is a nonbiased, yet informed perspective. RIGHT??

everyone i know who's lived in the states thinks every city is FUCKING ghetto. i knew one dude who said the side of NJ near NY is like a toxic wasteland or something! everyone i know who lives in the states, including my bro in boston (who's spent time in detroit, atlanta, etc.), says most of the cities are ghetto, and the rest is just rich people hiding in massive estates and middle-class in these wasteland suburbs. what a fucking country! and canada is following right to the spiritual holocaust. what a shame! black people getting angrier and gangstier, white people imitating black people (even/especially rednecks)... i want to beat every wigger i see straight on the shins! that will cure their pansy ass from that trendy lifestyle

but maybe ghettos breed angels? like in those romantic rap videos :)

all that negativity aside, the same people did say there is a lot of culture and variety in NJ and elsewhere. so no, im not 'hatin'....

i agree w/u that white ppl acting "hood" who aint from that lifestyle , and do it as a trend needs to get stopped bcuz that shits alot of things, ignorant, lame, bein some of them.

however dont judge and assume that all white heads who are a certain way, are ACTIN since there is also some of us who do come from that life there fore, aint "wigga" in the lame ass, wanna be sense of the word. IN that case it can stand for

anyways thas a interesting thing to hear that canadians basically think any city in america is ruff haha...IDK, some more than others but I think we got more than our fair share here in NJ cuz the population n all that bein so full up that we jsut dont got nowhere to go and shit gets built up on top of itself til everybodys crazy. u gotta go hard out here if u want to survive otherwise the streets will eat u alive.

IDK if u post in The Lounge at all but its a very fast moving social forum, u just bullshit n chill and chat with ppl in there, u can make 20 posts in 10 minutes easy. Lots of those posts is in there, Plus I been on here since 2003, so u def. build up posts over time bein on here as long as i have.

Its cool tho, if thats how u wanna see it ur welcome to ur opinion....ask anybody on here who knows me IRL n they can tell u nerd would not be a word that would describe me lol.
