Why lightbulbs to smoke crack ??

Hi all,
I am new to this site and glad I found it after many hours of searching for such a site.
ANyway, I had previously heard about using a lightbulb to smoke crack and after seeing it here, tried it.
I do not know what I did wrong but it was just awful! The smoke was so strong and harsh I could not get a good hit. I washed out the bulb 3 times after each shitty hit and it did not help. The crack was good from our glass pipe.
Stupid question but I am assuming this is supposed to give a good buzz using this method??
Any other good ways to smoke this stuff??
Live in an area where there are really no head shops, I went online for pipes, but got bogged with all the pot pipes,especially since I was never a pot smoker.

Cuz lightbulbs work great for vaporizing stuff.
It's a great way to smoke anything vaporizable, but a crackpipe of course the best.

You want to apply a DIRECT FLAME to crack when smoking it, so a lightbulb doesn't work... now there *IS* a way to make a NICE "crack bulb" - you poke out the center as you normally would, but then put in a glass tube; pack some chore boy around it; put yer crack on the chore boy; apply the flame; and suck thru the tube... the lightbulb fills with the crack smoke (acting as a reservoir of sorts) .. but you don't put yer crack IN the bulb the apply the flame to the OUTSIDE, thats not how it's done..
