As fairnymph said, the potential neurotoxicity of the drug is what catapults it out of the realm of therapeutic use.
And, of course, the impracticality of it's duration of action.
but all that aside, I don't know, I feel it's practical (focusing) effects far outweigh any sort of euphoric (which is connected to the psychological addiction that renders it 'recreational/abusable') effects in regard to ADD
this is not to say that I don't enjoy the drug. I feel that it would make for a very interesting though ultimately flawed anti-depressent. From my own experiences and what I've gathered from others, it's very mechanical. Robotic.
whereas a drug like cocaine pulls one into an emotional cycling of extremes, I feel 4-MAR pulls you out of any semblance of emotionality at all; out of yourself, into this place where you feel nothing. It sort of wipes the slate clean of anything that may possibly offend and conversely enthrall you.
basically, i feel that it puts you into a place where nothing is personal and you CAN'T get depressed because you are pulled so far away from whatever you may be feeling about any given situation. used as an anti-depressant, I feel the drug would just be psychologically damaging, feeding into a defense-mechanistic delusion.
anyway, my point is, I could see how someone could be interested in possible ADD therapies utilizing 4-MAR. But taking everything into account, I feel like using it for ADD would be like setting yourself on fire when you're cold. the fire will certainly warm you up, but if you're smart enough to douse yourself off, though you may never feel cold again, you're sitting in a hospital with third degree burns and more than enough skin grafts to last the rest of your deformed life.
