Why is weening off Bupenorphine so easy compared to Oxy/Hydromorph?

I have recently been weening from suboxone quite drastically in preparation to get rid of the cumulative blockade effect from 21 months of 12-16mgs a day, i acquire a bottle of thirty 15mg Oxy IRs and i plan to IV and snort most of them, and save a few for later. I was wondering why it has been so easy for me. i the last 160 hours, i have taken only 32mgs, while for the past 20 months or so i have been taking 12-16mgs a day as im perscribed. i have experienced very little discomfort, almost none. why is this. i normally wouldve taken 84-112mg in this 7 day period, and yet i have only taken 32mg and have had no withdrawals at all. is this cuz its a long acting opiate and i always have something in me? wtf is going on? i should be feeling shit. i know damn well that back when i was doing five to six 8mg hydromorphone/ 40mg OxyContin IV everyday, if i had dropped down to 2 of those pills a day ( a 2/3 decrease like i have been doing with the Subs ) i wouldve been sick as dog. the 2 shots per day wouldve gotten me well for an hour and id be right back in withdrawals cuz my the opiate backlog in my body would be depleted after day 2. yet hear i am on day 7 of a strait drop from 12-16mg a day to 2-4 mgs a day, and i havent noticed anything beyond a little irritability. why is this? any theories? experience or speculation is welcome im just curious

I think this is due to the longer halflife. Anybody with more info feel free to correct my post or add on to it. It is harder to taper on drugs with short half lives.

Its def because of the half life, I quit subs a few weeks ago and the first few days I was fine, no trouble sleeping, no withdraw effects, but after a few days had trouble sleeping and had restless leg syndrome, if u were to stop cold turkey u would def feel the side effects

agreed, it's the half life! i believe it's 1mg on day one turns to .5mg on day two etc.....not positive on that....but i know a few peeps who usually say they don't w/d from bupe til day 6 or 7 cause thats how long it takes for all of it to metabolize i suppose...if you've been on the bupe for longer than 6months or so i'd say you'll def. feel it in a few days, lucky you have some candy that makes you feel dandy!!

yea i mean i have full bottles of sub of OXy IR ( cant wait to get high again!) and i havent felt compelled to redose on the subs. i just really thought i would be in a little more discomfort. what im basically doing is weening off the subs for a few days so i can have so fun with the Oxy IR, then i am going back on the subs. thank you all for their answers. i was pretty much thinking the same thing, longer half life. i guess what really matters with bupe is not how much you have running thru you, but just that you have SOME of it going thru you, however small the ratio is to what your normal dose is. i can def see maybe not really withdrawaling til day 3 or 4 if i went cold turkey ( thank god for chronic scripts and weens !), because i have accidently gonna over 36 hours with out Sub once and didnt even notice. that was a rare occurence but still, i had always picture coming of sub would be harder, that id be sitting around yearning to dose a little more and end up having to go the docs a few das early and admit defeat. interesting theories thanks guys.

subs last forever in your system. i was told that even up to 11 days after your last dose there is still traces of it in your system. i remember stopping them for 5 days before i had my wisdom teeth taken out (so that the painkillers they gave would be able to work) and even after 5 days i felt little to nothing from the oxy at 15mg. it wasnt a high dose i know, but it didnt even help with pain much, and even less had any euphoric effects. last year i cold turkeyed form 8 mg suboxone and for about 1 month i had very mild w/d symptoms. mostly runny nose/eyes and i sneezed alot. i was also a little depressed. it was nothing like the agony of oxy, hydro, morphine w/d. there was also no cravings while in w/d. sub is a very strange drug to be sure, but a miracle for many.

yea it is very good for addicts like me who need it to have a somewhat manageable life. i think the reason so many people call it a miracle drug is because they simply dont realize thats its basically just another opiate, and you are just switching from one to another. if people knew that i dont think they would see it as so miraculous.

i think it's "miraculous" because i can hold down a full time job, go to the skatepark more often, hit the gym on crappy days, sleep regularly and feel a little less depressed in reference to the weather change.....other then those things, it is just another drug! but it's wonderful at low doses
