Why is there not rampant use of opium?

Poppies are entirely legal, grow very very easily, and take little to no effort to harvest.

I just dont understand why it all has to be done in Afghanistan and why I dont see more people smoking domestic or growing their own opium

it takes like 10 acres and 40 hrs a week of manpower to supply a small # of people
 
Ahem actually growing your own poppies is definatly NOT legal and anyone with half a wit would know exactly what your doing with about 50 poppies in your back yard garden . And IMO i dont think it would be worth the hassle . its easier just to get pharms . plus poppies take all year to grow.
 
Absolutely. And to reiterate: poppies are not legal in 90% of the world. Definitely not in the US.
 
i wondered this too and the answer i was given is simply that it takes too many poppies. you could easily get away with growing some opium poppy plants in your backyard. however, the amount of opium these would produce would be very small. and if you had an acre of poppies on your property, that would obviously raise suspicion.


however, the real question is, where do all the poppies that are being sold from within the usa on a very well known website that sells all sorts of other things but i cannot mention because it is considered source come from? where are all thousands of dried poppy pods sold for "ornamental purposes" being grown and how can people get away with openly growing them and selling them?

it's a good question. they're not being grown in the us. im curious as to how these people are importing them. im under the impression they're buying from pharmaceutical growers who have already extracted and sold the opium.
 
but they still contain opium (hence all the people buying them to make pod tea) so that explanation doesn't make any sense.

they contain the remnants of opium (opium powder resin, for lack of a better word). the majority of the latex has no doubt been removed and sold.
 
i'm not so sure about the latex having been removed prior. i never see slashes in the the dried pods. but maybe the plants heal themselves after idk.

You're not the only one. When I got tipped off of an imminent raid, I took all of my seeds (about 10 pounds) and spread them over about 200 acres of public land (fields). From what I know, less than 40 grew and none put up pods large enough to bother with.

I also had a lot of plants, which I sort of did the same with.

never got to harvest any opium from them, though.

Poppies are grown in Mexico quite heavily, which is where most of them are probably coming from.

I used to know a guy from #poppies (on an undernet irc server- room no longer in existance) who was a vendor. His came entirely from turkey and mexico.

Then he quit using and drinking and closed up shop. Quit the pods and tapered a 8mg/day xanax habit at the same time (pods were ct, xanax was obviously tapered).
 
no, they can't heal themselves because they are already at harvesting stage. even if they did, there would be scarring. plus, why would anyone go through the trouble to smuggle thousands of opium poppies into the usa when they could simply process them into opium or heroin which would be thousands of times easier to smuggle?
 
We obviously know that opium poppies are being smuggled into the US, though. Well, not smuggled. They get transported like any legal product.

No one knows what the fuck they are.

Give it 10 years.
 
All of them the vendor I knew were. I'm sure some from Arizona are US grown, but certainly not enough to supply them for a year.
