Misc Why is there no '' Prescription Drugs'' section?

A section for people who were prescribed drugs by a doctor and who are taking the prescribed amounts and want to know more about them, the effects, side-effects, dosage and who have no intent in using them recreationally.

There is a simple reason for this. When someone is prescribed Oxycontin for his back pain, comes here to ask questions about the dosage and some super opiate athlete comes and says with a ''connaiseur'' tone:

'' Oh...you need to take about 60mg to feel the full effect''

Then we have a problem.

Some DUDE makes a super huge topic about Adderal and recommends to take 20-30 mg in a shot to ''feel the full effect''...that's perfectly fine if the dude who reads the topic wants to blow his head off but many people have ADD and are looking to find the correct dosage to treat their condition and they end up taking 30mg in a shot, instead of 5-10mg, the amount appropriate for their condition.

It has become obvious that on one side there's people who buy drugs illegally with one sole purpose: To get high. The subject matter in the entire forum is how to get high...how to increase the high, how to find stuff that gets you even higher.
And on the other side there's serious people who got their medicine from a doctor and want to know more about it's proper usage.

Since the 2 groups of people constantly keep misleading each other, my recomandation is to open a sub section called:

''Prescription drugs, Focus on Proper usage and therapy.''

Many people have many questions about the drugs they are taking, how it affects their health, and it would be a good idea to separate them from people who are here to ask how to fill their veins with stuff they illegally buy on some street corner.

Doctors don't take the medicine they give you. How can they know for sure? Here you find people who are taking the exact same thing.

Its true that the forum is mainly focused around getting high....how much of X should I take to get a hit, & will Y potentiate it or not....etc.

& thats ok, its mainly where the harm reduction comes into play. But I agree, a section on medication focusing on using drugs as prescribed deserves a place here.

I've recently (& reluctantly) been prescribed a 'sedative' anti-depressant...no way am I going to abuse these things...I just wanted to know more about this drug, and in particular wanted to hear other peoples experiences with it. Started a thread here in OD & I got good answers/feedback, but the mods in their wisdom moved the thread over to 'healthy living' or some such.

Certainly not the most popular/widely read part of this forum...

If you are given a prescription drug you are given a way and amount to consume. If you do not do this you are no longer following your prescription and so it can be discussed like any other drug, if you wish for more specific information provide a little background info in your post.

There doesn't need to be a seperate forum for Rx meds...there are all kinds of threads in all different forums addressing these issues.

Let's be honest here...this IS a site primarily covering recreational use of drugs....mostly for harm reduction purposes, therefore, to expect that people are NOT going to respond in that manner is unrealistic.

I have two suggestions for you....ONE, either find a more appropriate site...there are thousands of them, or TWO (and the one I'd personally recommend)...is simply make it clear in your initial thread post that your question is about your Rx med and that you have no interest in hearing anything about the recreational use of such med. If you do that, people would most likely choose not to make the types of comments you mentioned above.

The reason I think you ought to go with choice #2 is because there are a hell of a lot of VERY knowledgeable people here who have had experience with meds....both as Rx'd and also recreationally. If you specify what info you need, I'm sure you will get a wealth of helpful info.

When you get a prescription, you're told how much to take. The doctor gives you the necessary instructions on when, how, and the amount of the medication you need.

If you want to know about the proper usage of a medication you're prescribed why not call your doctor? Or look it up on one the many other sites that stockpile information and indications for various prescription drugs.

There's ton of websites with this type of forum, with JUST people who are using them how they should be. Honestly I don't think it would do much on BL, especially for drugs that aren't abused much(or at all), because the only people who would use it are people who would be on BL anyways, AND of those people the people on that particular med, AND of those people only the ones who are interested in that. See where I'm getting at?

The forum is about harm reduction. It is about reducing the harm caused by recreational drug use. This may include giving information about the safest way to use a substance in order to become intoxicated.

What you're asking for isn't illegal. It's what physicians, and various other medical professionals deal with and do for a living. Not to mention there are much better forums suited for that information.
