Why is it illegal to alter your own consciousness at all?

I guess it depends on where you live. In the place I am currently in, you can buy alcohol (even up to 98% pure) for consciousness altering. In the land of my last home, you could buy cannabis products in a store by having a special card...and soon you won't even need the stupid card.

I am strongly of the belief that there can be no laws prohibiting a man or lady from alering their consciousness in the privacy of their home. I love telling people that I believe crack and 3mg heroin pellets for injection should be available in every corner pharmacy complete with INSTRUCTIONS on what to do. This is really not so radical considering prohibition against mind altering drugs is a recent phenominon at least in USA. Up until the 1900s, potent cannabis tincture, opium produts, and even cocaine was available over the counter in pharmacies to anyone who requested them. The powers that be have done such a good job of programing citizens to allow the government power to regulate consciousness, and take freedom away from those who do not follow the expected norm. As a result, very few people have any idea that 'drug laws' have not always been there....and that most people do not need laws to keep them from becoming self destructive. History shows mankind can exist just fine with powerful drugs like heroin and cocaine legally available to those who need it. It will require many generations before society can deprogram and will be ready to return to the way it was....if ever.

It's simply not popular enough. I personally hate it, and can find very little people who enjoy it let alone like to do it often.

it can be fun mentally and visually, but I have never experienced a more awful body load in my entire life. Super hot or super cold with pin prickles all over your body, like little needles. Especially if you're sitting or leaning against something. Everything seems so sharp and pokey. ick.

yeah it's really a matter of not being known and widespread... once it was being pushed as a legal alternative to cannabis here in europe it didn't take long to become illegal ;)

it was really common to have kids aged 12-16 smoking salvia around here, because headshops were selling it without age-restrictions, bizarre, eh?

btw funny/sad thing is: there were less freakouts and hospitalisations due to salvia than due to the synthetic cannabinoids (well at least recorded freak-outs)

when will they ever learn that kids high on proper weed are way too lazy to do dangerous stuff like smoking salvia? :D
