Why is methamphetamine detectable longer than amphetamine?

It is my understanding that methamphetamine is metabolized into amphetamine... correct?
The general consensus is that amphetamines are out of your system within ~2-3 days, whereas methamphetamine stays in your system ~3-5 days. Why the difference?
Is this because your body must first break methamphetamine down into amphetamine, and then metabolize the amphetamine?
If so, say if you were drug tested on the tail end of the "detectable spectrum" (say 4 days after using methamphetamine); at that point would only amphetamine likely be detected, and not methamphetamine?

I know "how to pass my drug test" threads aren't allowed, but that's what got me thinking about it; I used 2-fma one weekend (last ingested some ~6PM Sunday) and took a urine test Thursday morning, and am kinda nervous about what the results may be, and what they would be - meth or just amphetamine.
I did drink tons of fluids (soda and water) as well as a ton of cranberry juice the day before, so hopefully it will be clean... but I am curious as to how they are metabolized.

Any input is appreciated,
Thanks!
