Why is it that....

What is it that you respect about him? Respect is earned, and for me he hasn't done anything to earn my respect. Do I respect his music? Nope... His super awesome personality? Nope... His contribution to "the scene"? Nope...

I don't understand why you think we all need to respect the guy. I don't. Does that matter?

Who the fuck said you have to respect DEADMAU5? I said respect the genre of Electronic music. Its stupid ass haterz like yourself that bring seperation and jealously to an all new level. I SAID I RESPECT DEADMAU5. I love it how people act like they know Deadmau5 or any other DJ. Judgemental hater.

Usually its a combo of the soundsystem being crap crowds and the DJ being lazy. In terms of trance Djs if I'm sober beyond Paul van dyk they pretty much suck. There are exceptions.

I do like Van Dyk alot but even some of his stuff, sober or not, is repetative.

I like Paul Van Dyk. I got his Global cd. Pretty nice collection of his better songs. Trance can be repetative, sober or not.

i'll give you two reasons:

1. the beginnings of the rave scene

after acid house lost it's popularity due to massive hyping and commercialisation by the media, rave emerged and with it came groups like spiral tribe and new ideals (of course that's a bit simplified). those ideals saw edm parties as events where people got together to enjoy the music, the atmosphere, the absence of rules, the drugs and the company of each other. these parties would be loosely organised and everyone free to contribute, so if you want to play there you'll take your records to the party, if you want to sell drinks then just put up a bar, if you want to set up a second stage then just bring your speakers, if you want to contribute with something visual then put up some decoration or pick up your pois...
what was a taboo in that scene were commercialisation and star cult. only rarely would a entrance fee be asked and the dj would have his booth behind the speakers; after all the most important things were the people dancing and the music and not the guy playing the music.

some people have been at such parties back in the day (or now, they still exist) or have been influenced by those ideals as they were present to varying extent in most edm scenes back then. so it's only logical that commercialisaion, star cult and selling out will be frowned upon by parts of the edm crowd.

2. commercialisation and mass appeal of edm genres

as time goes by edm genres experience some change in style and some artists inevitably make tracks with popular appeal and gain some sort of star-status (in not so sure about breakcore here ;) ). with time more artists will jump onto the bandwagon and try to repeat the successes of earlier musicians and it will work. copying the popular style will bring the artist popularity and money (and i bet every musician out there would love to be able to make enough money solely with his/her music).
as the music becomes more and more commercial, the crowds will get bigger, but interest in the original style will wane as most artists embrace the new style and the artists playing the old style will get booked less and less at parties. but eventually the new, more commercial, style will become formulaic, run out of ideas and die.
this has happend many times in the history of edm (early 90's trance vs. dutch trance, jungle vs. drumnbass vs. dnb like pendulum, goa trance vs. fullon, german techno vs. schranz, ...)

i'm sure many people who have been listening to edm for a longer amount of time have witnessed that happening to their favourite style, jumped ship and found a new home and are therefore very apprehensive when a new star dj or producer enters the scene and draws the masses in.

i've witnessed the whole cycle in the psytrance scene myself with fullon. up to around 2001/2002 goa/psytrance was basically a underground genre with complicated, atmospheric and sometimes quite dark music. artists like astrix and gms invented fullon, which was comparatively simple, easy going and very danceable. it was the new thing to play. by 2004 you were hard pressed to find a party that was playing a different style, and even when they played it chances are there was only fullon at the mainfloor. so far so good, fullon is decent music after all. but starting in around 2006 you'd hear fullon remixes of pop songs and in isreal psytrance became the most popular edm genre among young people this in turn led to lots of isreali producers who were highly regarded in the scene (again astrix and gms, but also infected mushroom) produceing cheesier and cheesier tracks, which in turn were played all around the world attracting new people and alienating older parts of the scene. in 2009 people would start complaining that all fullon was sounding the same and/or has become too cheesy for their taste. now in 2011 fullon is only played at about half of the smaller parties and there are even large festival where it's not at all played, it is being replaced by other styles. the cylcle is (nearly) complete.
if you replace artist names and dates you can play the game for many different genres.

conclusion:
first of all sorry for the long rant, but you can see that there are lots of reasons for people who love the music they are hearing at paties now to dislike or even hate successful/commercial/star artists.

You should really stop spamming, ect. You respect deamau5 because you are a naive buffoon. Joel zimmerman is a douchebag, this is well known by anyone involved in the EDM scene that isn't a deadrat pillow biter. Why is that if someone talks shit about someone who is successful they are immediately JEALOUS? I am not jealous of deadmau5 at all. I have a great life, joel is a pathetic loser with a cult following. I already have a cult following and more wonderful friends than I can count. Joel is a hater of marijuana and rusko, (aka jealous that it took rusko no time to shoot off to success) and basically the biggest bitch I can think of. FUCK YOU, you're wrong. FUCK YOU, I'm right. Because we have all made it to the dance. And believe me, this is the dance.

Deadmau5 sucks and I'm no hater.

There's just some people that hate anything commercial. I really don't understand the hate for Guetta, Benassi, Laidback Luke, the other house heavy hitters though. These guys are the pinnacle of EDM, nothing gets you moving like some good commercial house.

If you like house so much then cut out the bro haus and move up to some MSTRKRFT or Justice.

I don't listen to MSTRKRFT or Justice because they don't lay it down as hard as Swedish House Mafia or Benassi.

Justice=hipster house. And to me good house usually requires a good vocal track.

this is harder than anything benassi or the shit house mafia has ever done. prove me wrong. (also you've never seen them live, or probably listened to any of their shit. they lay it down harder than anyone I've ever seen live, except skism.)

I see this kind of attitude across all musical genres with younger living scenes.

I consider self-important people that take their musical choices that seriously and obsess about every little thing someone successful has accomplished within a particular genre dorks: scene dorks.

I find it quite amusing to be honest.

:D

Ok... so I'm not really sure why you are cursing at me (where's your "PLUR"?) but your original post is about how you don't understand why people don't like music like Deadmau5. Did you not want an answer to this question, or did you only want to hear an opinion if it's the same as yours?

Did you really just call me a stupid ass hater? I'm sorry, but I've been listening to electronic music for about 12 years now. You must be confusing me with someone else - NEWB. Don't you find it a bit ironic that you're talking shit to me, while calling me a hater? All I did was answer the question you asked, in the thread you started, and explain why I don't like Deadmau5. I wasn't rude, I didn't curse at you. You, on the other hand, are having a pink panty meltdown because people don't respect some dj. Calm down there sweety - you're not really making a case for yourself here. Resorting to name calling during a disagreement generally means you don't have a fucking clue what you are talking about. HAVE A PLURRY DAY!

it's kinda ironic that foxyloxy55 is the epitome of the op.

Loves it.
