Why is it that sooo many electronic fans have to HATE, BITCH or MOAN abt DJs that they may not like ? Its like I guess if you can start to find a DJ on Amazon, itunes, or even @ your local record mart, then that DJ must be to "pop" for some. I understand OVERRATED or a DJ that gains alot of popularity for only having nice "other artsit albums" but seriously, Why hate on them? Why not be happy that finally electronic music is being respected by the masses. Do some just like to always be in obscurity??? A couple that come to mind that get hated on alot are DEADMAU5 and Tiesto, both of which I like and respect but aren't nearly my favorites. You think there a dick in person? So what? You think there the only "dickheads" out there that DJ? You think your obscure favorite DJ that you may not know isnt? GET REAL !! STOP THE HATING!! What ever happened to PLUR? yea right...LOL

I think it's mostly because all the big producers/DJ are just rolling in cash, while smaller producers/DJs who make really unique music are just about surviving.

That's what pisses me off the most about big producers - they don't really make anything unique or mind blowing, but they still make a ton of cash by using "catchy beats" and their brand power.

I can understand that. I just think for Electronic music to grow, people cant keep hating on one another. Thats not what the scene is abt anyway.

Jealousy.

People seem have an idea that an artist should make the first 2 albums over and over and over again for their entire career and any deviation is selling out.
It doesn't matter that in the 10-15-20 years they have been doing it, their music tastes have changed. If the music is different they have sold out and are shit.

I disagree, tiesto is still making trance and deadmau5 is still making progressive house/ electro house. Their music hasn't changed much..in fact deadmau5 has been making the same track in every new album he makes. Tiesto on the other hand, his tracks aren't really going anywhere these days, he's only famous now cause he's well known in the past for his quality tracks and djing.

I don't hate deadmau5 but I find his music kind of boring. He should expand his horizons a bit, and I don't mean dubstep. That's like Miguel Migs getting into hard house.

First of all, not everyone who listens to electronic music gives a shit about "PLUR". I mean do we really need an acronym for the golden rule? Second of all, why do Deadmau5 fans get so defensive when others don't like him. I don't like his music. It's not cause he's trendy, it's not cause I'm jealous he makes money, it's because I don't think it sounds good. Does that make me unPLURRY? Personally, I don't care what you or anyone thinks of the music I like, I don't need that sort of satisfaction.

It can be irritating when people who have a lot of musical talent don't make any money at all vs. someone like Deadmau5 who uses the exact same beat and model for every song. Also, it can be annoying when you've been listening to electronic for years and years and someone says something about Rusko or Deadmau5, which is barely scratching the surface of what electronica has to offer. It takes more effort to spend time looking for more "underground" music and sifting through it to find gems, rather than popping in a CD you got at FYE in the "techno" section. You have to really love and appreciate this genre to want to do that.

Anyway, I think electronic is far from being respected by the masses, and I'm not sure that was ever the goal. Popular does not equal good. Deadmau5 isn't responsible for making electronic somewhat more popular. Before him there have been many more big name DJ's.

Plus there is the fact that Deadmaus has a tendency to a be a bitchy, cocky asshole. Why should I like someone like that (regardless of whether they can make good EDM or not)?

I like watching artists grow and mature and think that's an entirely different concept than what we're talking about here. I love acts like Richard James, Underworld, Pet Shop Boys, Alex Robotnick, Orbital, Eat Static, Graham Massey, etc...who have been making music for 10 + years and whose sound sometimes changes with each album and sometimes with each track on an album. I love hearing how diverse an artist can get and am not complaining about said artist evolving or changing their sound. In fact, I consider that type of flexibility the hallmark of a great artist.

Just a heads up...I'm not a Deadmau5 fan. I bought his last 4X4 CD and actually only liked a couple songs. I do think he is overrated. My only point was, WHY HATE ON HIM? WHY BE JEALOUS? AND Your opinion of a "gem" is not the same as my opinion of a "gem". I mean, really who annointing any1 person the "Mayor of electro" to be the judge of what electro is good. To each is own. Deadmau5 has fans, good for him and Electronic music as a whole. I'm ok with whoever you like. Let me know what DJs you like and I'll take a listen. Who cares if Deadmau5 is a dickhead? SO WHAT!!!You think your fav DJ is some saint? Donates to charity or something? Fucking Mother Teresa or the POPE? Damn HATERZ!!! I dont buy music @FYE, there too expensive!!! But it nice to listen to a DJ that SELLS CDS SOMEWHERE!! I love underground. Its just hard to like OBSCURE!

I agree, Electronic music is not only NOT liked by the masses (in the U.S.), but its barely know. I live 2 hrs from Detroit and people where I live think of "techno" as Electronic music. It would just be nice that they knew what is what.

At the end of the day everyone has opinions. Just because someone dislikes an artist and expresses their distaste for them doesn't mean they're jealous hipsters who hate on it solely because it's popular. I've personally always disliked the saying, "If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all", because people should express their opinions no matter what side of the spectrum they happen to land on. Haters gonna hate as they say.

I agree with you. I wasnt generalizing. Like i said, I'm not a DEADMAU5 fan. But I respect the guy. And Tiesto as well, even tho the majority of there music I dont actually like. Its the genre of Electronic music that I'm trying give the utmost respect to.

Usually its a combo of the soundsystem being crap crowds and the DJ being lazy. In terms of trance Djs if I'm sober beyond Paul van dyk they pretty much suck. There are exceptions.

What is it that you respect about him? Respect is earned, and for me he hasn't done anything to earn my respect. Do I respect his music? Nope... His super awesome personality? Nope... His contribution to "the scene"? Nope...

I don't understand why you think we all need to respect the guy. I don't. Does that matter?

QFT. Respect is indeed earned. :)
