Why have there never been any EEG testing on people WHILE they're on psychedelics?

Maybe I just haven't found the studies, but it seems obvious to me that if people what to understand how psychedelics like LSD, Shrooms, Molly, etc. effect our brains shouldn't we take EEGs of people while they're ON the stuff? I would be extremely interested in seeing the results. In fact I'm thinking of investing in an EEG machine.

I am also interested in this--Do our brains go into Alpha? Theta? Delta? While tripping?

Funny, I was wondering the same thing just last night. Surely someone's done it. I want to know what was happening to my brainwaves on a bad mushroom trip. Nasty shit, I would think.

I imagine it would vary between substances, but some would probably take on patterns indicative of hypnosis or sleep. Especially oneir...?nautic drugs like ibogaine.

My brain is tired after an entire day of programming so forgive me for lack of details and not being sure, but I'm pretty sure there's a relatively new documentary that was made in the last 2 or 3 years, in which various people were given LSD in a clinical environment, and EEGs among other tests were performed. Anyone know which one I'm on about? Sorry that I wasn't more specific.

Hmm, that does ring a bell. I feel like the national geographic documentary on LSD showed some clips of an eeg being used on someone on LSD. I think it was happening in Switzerland or the Czech Republic or something like that. May not have been eeg, but I seem to remember a guy with lots of electrodes on his head.

I think that's a big part of it, nobody who's tripping wants to be wired up to a brain scanner. It'd be really neat to do this, though - commercial EEG equipment has cheapened greatly in the past 10 years.

There's a Star Wars toy that uses a simple eeg machine. You use your alpha waves to make a ping-pong ball float. Star Wars Force Trainer I picked one up off ebay for a penny. It was fun for a bit, it didn't really seem any different on acid though.

Yep,and I'd be concerned that this horrible set and setting would actually trigger hightened anxiety and paranoia, which...........drumroll..............could lead to the EEG giving less-than-flattering suggestions as to "what psychedelics do" to the brain :(

If anybody did this, they'd have to be one seriously tough bastard, or be tripping that hard they don't even realise they have a crazy robot brain scanning face!

& Thanks for the documentary links, i'm gonna get watching them now. :)

i also think that an eeg is kind of a rough examination.... meaning the answers it looks for or the parameters measured arent that precise. so you find out what waves get produced... so? thats not really that much of an insight.
commercial eeg will get more popular and some will play with them while tripping but i dont expect great things really. i think most devices of this kind are being researched in the hope of aiding people with disabilities communicate with computers and peripherals to live a life closer to normal. as far as i know, so far things arent moving at light speed, but i remember one report of some being used to control a robotic arm, and some to control an electric wheelchair.

now the far more interesting thing to perform while tripping would be an fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging). basically it gives a map of the various activity in different brain areas at a certain point in time. however, these are far more expensive, the equipment more cumbersome, and the subject has to be quite still....
it would be interesting for instance to see the various activity in the brain that psychedelics cause. for instance, how come some feel more earthy/ spiritual while others just more light?....
