I know this as been talked about before, but nothing recent so...

When did you first try Ecstasy ? Why did you try it? Were you aware of what to expect? Did it live up to expectations?

I'll go first -

When
I first tried Ecstasy (wasn't known as any other name) in 88 / 89'ish. I had to give my dealer a few days notice to get a tablet (before stamps / brands :D)

Why
I was into the all night parties and after clubbing scene - at the time the main drugs were LSD and Speed (Acid / Acid house). People were starting to talk about this 'new' drug 'Ecstasy' and all that was known about it was - it kept you dancing / awake all night. I went to my usual dealer to get ready for the weekend (LSD and Speed) and they said "I can get this thing called Ecstasy' would you try it and let me know what its like? I simply thought - why not!

Was I aware of what to expect -
I was expecting something like a strong speedy experience. There was no written information about it, there was no internet (can you imagine :D), people had 'heard' about it but nobody had tried it (that I knew).

Did it live up to expectations
It did more than that and blew my mind :D - I fell in love with it straight away !

When?
The first time I tried MDMA was just last month on September 13th at a Pretty Lights show.

Why?
I was going with my friend who is an "experienced roller" (if you'd like to call it that) and she was planning on doing it herself. I had never tried it, but had a growing curiosity toward it for several months leading up to the moment that I actually did it. I figured that I would go ahead and finally give it a shot after turning down the opportunity several times before, I needed to step out of my comfort zone for my own sanity anyway.

Was I aware of what to expect?
Absolutely not. My main concern was that I wouldn't be myself and that my mind and thoughts would be altered, I wasn't at all familiar with the tendencies of this drug. I was absolutely blown away, and I really don't think that anyone could imagine this sort of high with no prior experience with it.

Did it live up to expectations?
Ten fold. Worlds cannot even describe...wow. It was the most incredible feeling that I've ever had in my lifetime. I felt more confident than ever, had a craving for new friendships and relationships, and absolutely nothing was wrong in the world for 4 or so hours. It brought my friend and I together and we developed a close relationship within those short hours.

Great reply - thank you.

I'm really curious about something though - you have a tonne of information (this site for one) available to you. You should pretty much know what to expect before taking almost 'any' drug. Do you think (there is no right or wrong answer here and I'm after your honest opinion) that taking a substance without knowing its effect is normal / common?

Doing MDMA was a last minute decision for me, and I wasn't aware of this site or others like it until I went searching for it a couple of days after I did it. The only information that I had provided to me was by my friend who has done it several times. It was literally a day or two before I did it that I found out she had some for us. I'm sure that taking a substance without knowing its effects is very common, people aren't aware of online educational drug resources. I would have never imagined that there was an online community where people can openly discuss their trips and whatnot. Do I think it's smart to take a substance without having any prior information on it? Absolutely not. There are so many things that could have gone wrong that night, and I'm thankful that they didn't.

Rolling so hard right now after 6 years brake, gona edit this late :D
Holy god...:D

When?
Like last summer, not too long ago.

Why?
wanted to try something new and didn't know what to try. Not into "harder" shit like freaky RCs (at that time) or cocaine, ketamine, heroin, etc, so ecstasy sounded like an okay choice to try.

Were you aware of what to expect?
Like I had read what it did and heard people talk, but I didn't know it would be anything close to what MDMA is.

Did it live up to expectations?
Blew my fucking mind.

I'm going to do my first two if that's alright, my first time I was really drunk (It seems like I always try new drugs first when drunk :S)

First time -

When:

November 2010

Why:

I got adopted into the Vancouver rave scene and I was very curious about it. I didn't have the balls to do it for a while though, I didn't really want to venture out of alcohol/weed so for the first few raves I went to drunk/stoned. But I guess after a while drunken me said F**k it and popped a cap.

Was I aware of what to expect:

I've seen my friends roll before at raves and it looked like a ton of fun. But no, I had no idea what to expect, sadly the night is quite hazey due to the alcohol consumption so I don't remember everything

Did it live up to expectations:

From what I remember, far and beyond!

Second time -

When:

December 2010 (sadly not a full month wait, didn't know any better back then :( )

Why:

Was curious again to try it sober, after already doing it once I was very interested in trying it again! Only this time sober haha

Was I aware of what to expect:

I was quite aware from what I remembered from my first time but it still below me off my feet!

Did it live up to expectations:

Once again far and beyond, glad I was a drunken idiot and tried it then because if I didn't I don't think I ever would have. :)

When:

A Sunday night

Why:

I was very intrigued by what I'd read about its ability to help one work on self-improvement.

Was I Aware of What to Expect:

Oh yes! I'd researched the hell out of this. I'm sure I could've given ol' Shulgin himself a tip or two.

Did it Live Up to Expectations:

Yes.... and no.

Since I was trying it primarily for more serious reasons, I hadn't given a lot of thought to the "fun" aspects of it, so I was pretty overwhelmed by how fun it is, the impact it had on music, etc. So, in that way it greatly exceeded expectations. However, as I alluded to, my expectations of it being fun were basically non-existent, so it was easy to exceed those expectations.

Regarding its ability to assist me in self-improvement efforts, again my answer is both "Yes" and "No". "Yes", in that I was very surprised in the ways it has helped me, I can assure you I've changed for the better and that part of the reason is because of how mdma assisted me. (Assisted me - MDMA didn't change me, I changed me, but mdma certainly helped in important ways.) "No", in that mdma did not help me in many ways I had expected (hoped), I'm now pretty sure it never will.

IME, MDMA gets you nowhere as far as self-inprovement, introspection, etc. All MDMA did (and don't get me wrong, it did this in a huge way) was basically just show me how good life can be and how to always see the upsides of things, no matter how bad. But as far as other deeper meaning, I really can't find much.

First time EDC Las Vegas (June) 2012

So my friends told me the that the only way i'll last the night was to take it. I hated the idea of taking it. They've been rolling for years I always thought they were a bit crazy. I was always pretty much anti hard drug, a little weed here and their was okay. I was basically peer pressured. I said fuck it I'll take it, ever since that night I have been on a magical adventure and I thank them every time I roll.

When? Summer of 2009 was 17 at the time.
Why? More individuals were starting to use mdma around me and i thought hell there might be something there, there's probably a reason why people are trying to eat these colored tablets and capsules with powder in them. my very good friend at the time was also starting to roll so i got pretty curious.
did you try it? Yes i did, i think i tried it out to many times honestly.
Were you aware of what to expect? Not a damn clue, i knew it may have possibly made you feel euphoric but i was thinking it made you feel more tweaked out like meth.
Did it live up to expectations? oh yeah surpassed what i actually thought would happen while on mdma.

My first E story is kind of embarrassing.

The reason why I tried it was because I witnessed my sister (who is older) going through an E phase and I was very curious to try it, but she never let me because I was too young at the time. So the idea always stuck in my mind.

I first tried it in the 90's at an underground rave. I had heard all about it but I had no idea how to find any. Luckily my two friends found a dealer in the washroom and soon I was rolling. It felt amazing, like I was a super human.

It was a disaster though. I danced for a couple of hours straight without drinking any water and started overheating. Eventually I realized I was thirsty and went to the bathroom where I downed way, way too much water in one go. Then I went back out dancing with all the water swishing around in my gut. I started getting nauseous and then I puked all this water over the crowd. The hilarious part is that only one person noticed where the water came from and was totally grossed out; everyone else just kept dancing like nothing happened. I guess they were all high so it didn't matter, hahaha.

It went above and beyond my expectations. I was rolling weekly after that. Unfortunately I was oblivious to the consequences until it was too late. Back then the internet was not as useful as it is now.

When? 2007¬october
Why? Everybody was doing it, so i needed some adventure on my ass. I was scared to take it when i saw my friends terminator faces :D
But later i turned into one of them. :D
What to expect?
I was expecting amphetamine-like high :D But i just started smiling and melting when it hit me.

When did you first try Ecstasy ?
First time at a barn rave when I was 16 (OCT 2008.) took two half-bombs spread out over 2-3 hours, but was so high on mephedrone I didn't even feel it. First proper time when I was 17 (JUL 2009) at a house gathering.

Why did you try it?
Because it got offered to me and I was curious. Had broken the taboo of snorting drugs so thought 'why not'?

Were you aware of what to expect?
I had an idea of the effects because I researched on BlueLight after I took it originally, but before I had a dose that got me "fucked". Had also seen and knew people on it.

Did it live up to expectations?

I had an expectation that wasn't just surpassed but obliterated, because your body can never 'imagine' being, on a chemical level, happier than you ever have been or ever likely to be. It is the best feeling in the world, better than sex, better than winning poker, better than when Arsenal win, better than all my favourites things all put together. It is an amazing chemical.

When?
1 Month ago at a rave

Why?
Wanted to know what the hype of MDMA aka "Molly" was really all about out.
All the ravers would talk about it.

Were you aware of what to expect?

Not at all. When it kicked in, it hit me hard & I fell in lock with everyone/everything.

Did it live up to expectations?

It was FANTASTIC!
As someone stated "Blew my fucking mind"

Love reading these stories, word of advice space your rolls apart to keep that magical feeling
