Misc Why don't we see barbiturates/quaaludes produced illegally like we do benzos/synthetic opioids?

I'd imagine that most people consuming real/fake/RC benzos would likely take barbiturates or methaqualone over them given the choice. I've heard they are much, much more recreational/euphoric overall compared to most benzos. I've even read that it' still popular in South Africa where it's illicitly produced in India.

I'm guessing it's one of the following

1. No immediate demand for it. I'd say there is a still a "market" for it in the same way that there was no demand for Fentanyl/Nitazenes but there was for Heroin. I'd assume benzo-to-barbituates/methaqualone would be similar crossover markets.
2. Maybe it's a lot harder to synth/obtain precursors for then all the RC benzos? (just a guess)
3. Maybe they aren't really that recreational/much better than benzos, just a lot of rose tinted glasses.

I have seen some sources for both online.
If ya make an inquiry on a certain sight ya get bombarded for a while on WhatsApp or other contact means used.
Got scammed once but I knew I should have stayed with my reliable vendor. It's an iffy thing to source substances and ya really don't know what ya getting unless it is tested.

Was never game enough to go that route but that's interesting to hear that they could be out there.

Think I'm more interested in the history of substances nowadays than taking them.

Heard a lot of older guys rave about them, even saw an interview of an ex-wrestler where he said "yeah we couldn't get the seconals anymore so we had to make do with xanax which was a huge downgrade but oh well"

I would have worded it differently.

"Seconal compared to Xanax and only using the word "huge downgrade but oh well" - Should read

"Seconal to Xanax? That's like trading a Michelin-star steak for a moldy gas station burrito—you're not eating, you're just surviving!"

...just a lot of rose tinted glasses.
This part is certainly true of Quaalude. I gobbled a lot of Stumble Biscuits back in the day and they weren't much different from Valium or Xanax bars. You might have fun (especially if you add alcohol, which we always did) but you won't remember anything and you may wake up with unexplained injuries.

As far as barbiturates go, all I can say is tread lightly. There's a very fine line between feeling good and being comatose or dead. I once woke up in ICU on a ventilator having lost 3 days. The last thing I remember was walking around feeling fine.

Probably a combo of potency (barbs are often 100 times less potent than benzos), risk of death (gets stuff shut down too quickly), and they aren’t “in” with the kids anymore (qualudes probably are more trendy due to the wolf of wallstreet).
