It's bizarre. These days (with the daily mail constantly running stories about RCs) it must be impossible to make money selling powdered caffeine and 'herbal highs'.
How did people here first come upon the RC scene?
I read the book 'Smashed - growing up a drunk girl' (good book) -- there's a bit near the end when she mentions having been awake for days from a pill her friend bought off the internet. I thought "o rly??" and went searching on the net (this was 2009). I waded through a lot of shitty 'legal high'websites and somehow eventually ended up on bluelight deciding between mephedrone and methylone. I went for meph, and the rest is history.
Through BL I met, fell in love with and nearly married someone who introduced me to the wonderful world of drugs. We did everything from LSD and heroin to "haze" and "N-CAT". Basically if there was any chance that something might get us high, we'd take it. I think that's how vendors make money from selling shit -- people will take anything if there's a promise that it'll get you fucked up, even if there's no reason to believe that it actually will.
When I was a student (many years before all this) we all used to troop down to the local head shop and buy magic mushrooms. It was awesome! One time they were out of stock, so they sold us truffles instead. that was also awesome. Another time they were out, they sold me some "liquid ecstasy" -- I don't know what it was, but it didn't do anything at all. Fail
The thing that makes me more cautious these days is "Ivory Wave". A branded mystery drug, that turned out to be desoxypipradol. I never bought 'Ivory Wave', but I did take desoxy once. I went into it with my eyes open knowing the effects and risks. It was a fucking NIGHTMARE -- I can't imagine how much worse it'd be if you didn't know what to expect and ended up taking desoxy. Fuck me -- I'd never do drugs again.
