Why does valium weaken opiate effects for me?

I remember how i used to use kilonipin to potentiate opiate effects and it worked great. At least when it came to increasing the potential to catch a nod or just feeling high in general. I do remember that it seemed to kind of take away that "magic" feeling i get from opiates, but it would increase the nod. Now i don't have access to kilonipin anymore, so everynow and then i try to take some valium along with my dose to try and achieve that same effect that i would get from the kilonipin, but it never works. It actually makes me feel like i wasted my dose becuz i only feel half of the effect that i would had i not taken the valium..... has anyone else experienced this? I know everyone says how they love to combine the two becuz of the potentiation effect, but i dont get it. it doesnt happen for me.

Maybe you are taking too much? Benzos aren't true potentiators, they just add to the sedation so it is possible you are overpowering the opioids..

Apart from that, not sure.

That's a bummer. Diazepam is one of my top favorite recreational benzos. I enjoy it with opis just fine. I enjoy it alone or alongside some bud just fine as well.

I take oxycodone, valium, and soma and it can make me nod hard, i left out a soma this morning and i just awoke from an hour nap after nodding out so i think it's just you man. I think the reason im so relaxed and nod so hard is the valium and soma, being valium can be used to relieve muscle spasms and anxiety so for me i like it better than xanax. about the weed thing, i dont use it anymore, for one it dosent make my meds any stronger, all i feel is super stoned and second my PM dr does a UA every month so smoking a J isnt worth getting cut off all my meds. anyways good luck and try it again. IMO/E only some may disagree but thats them.

I would assume that you are taking too much Valium and it may be overriding the opiates. Try 10mg next time, that way it only slightly adds to the sedating effects and you can still feel your opiates. Me personally, I always found that a small amount ( 5-10mg ) of Diazepam nicely increased my effects from my Oxy IR.

yeah, i don't take benzos too often anymore. Before last night it had been about two weeks since the last benzo i ingested. And i only took one and a half 5mg valium. So it's definitely not that i'm taking too much valium. I really don't care for benzos much anymore unless i need em for anxiety or help with withdrawal. And another thing is that up to a few months ago i would always take even just a half of a 5mg valium if i thought i was gonna have trouble sleeping and even just the half would work wonders at helping me sleep. But all of a sudden i realized that they weren't helping me sleep anymore. They do have the anti anxiety effect but they give me some type of energy or something. Unless i take more than 10mg now adays they actually keep me awake at night. It's so weird. I don't know what to think.

Benzos can "dull out" opiate experiences, especially the highs. There is a reason for this pharmacologically, and if I recall from a lecture I was listening to, benzos decrease dopamine levels. I am not 100 % sure on this, but I remember it had to do with their GABA-ergic activity. Something about inhibiting the production of dopamine, thus increasing the levels of GABA. Again, I don't remember all that well, but I have definitely heard of this phenomenon.
