Why does Marijuana make you twitch ?

@MedicinalUser247

Twitches and Spasms:

It appears that lower doses of cannabis can bring on twitches or involuntary movements, similar to what one might see as a 'tic' in Tourette's,
can be brought on also by medications interacting with cannabis, as well as mg of caffeine consumed that day

" Spasms are thought to originate in areas of the brain that control movement, including several sites with abundant cannabinoid receptors. In one experiment, researchers found that rodents became more animated under the influence of small amounts of cannabinoids but less active when they received larger doses." - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/... to originate, when they received larger doses.

There is also some other evidence presenting that tics when using cannabis can be a sign of a neurodegenerative disorder in early stages (Parkinsons for example)
Stuttering/Speech
"And why does it make you stutter sometimes when it kicks in?"
It can make anxiety worse , eg stuttering or having difficulty making conversation as easily as usual, others have reported improvement on the stuttering if they use CBD instead or in conjunction

Vertigo

Most evidence and general knowledge would lead us to believe that the blood pressure change/drop is the main cause of this. According to this study though, its actually not (most of the time, some medical conditions/ naturally low blood pressure for example) , the vertigo is caused by: hypotension and impaired cerebral autoregulation. -https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1529742/#:~:text=Subjects%20who%20reported%20mild%20dizziness,hypotension%20and%20impaired%20cerebral%20autoregulation.

I once read about this! It was very interesting! I was probably completely stoned, because I have only shallow recall of it!

it was something about the nerves two different qualities that drive activation and action of the nerve. THC decreases other but might increase the other, around the whole nervous system; hence paradoxical effects!

Glad I was able to explain it in detail! You are welcome!

:hy:

e: I try to say something that might be possibly wrong, but I wish that it could offer a clue for someone that has read about it or is willing to dig further; but THCs effect to many nerves was kinda, there is, maybe, actuation potential or something, and the power of action that is triggered in function of actuation, and THC affects both of these, or then I have just gathered a bunch of false memories into some tiny seed of truth, and no one could pick anything valuable of this nonsense.

@someguyontheinternet @Skorpio do you have any idea what I am talking about?

It's nothing really to worry about. I wondered why Marijuana made me twitch and found out there called "Hypnic Jerks".

Actually this is incorrect, hypnic jerks are when you are falling asleep not when you get stoned

So if your question is 'why does weed give me twitches as i try to fall asleep' then this would be correct, otherwise its not.

People can get hypnic jerks from caffeine or even extreme exhaustion , so not specifically weed related but definitely related to sleep cycle stages

It does to me. Eyebrow twitches. Other random muscles sometimes too

Same but entire muscle groups. Like sometimes both legs will be so bad I can't stand up. It's usually very brief, though, a few minutes.

EDIT: I know that SOUNDS like it'd be funny, especially if you're high, but it's actually really unpleasant, like I worry I'm gonna fully seizure.

Myoclonic jerks can be harmless, but they can also be a sign of something a lot more serious. I've never experienced them from weed, only other drugs, typically stimulants.

When I was younger it used to. Not so anymore. I always wondered if it was related to Tardive Dyskinesia

until I built up tolerance it was common

Anybody also get that weird jerk when falling asleep after using strong cannabis? Almost like you dose off then your body jerks itself back awake? My gf and I were discussing this last night as we were both experiencing the leg/arm twitching and the jerks when dosing off…
