Why does HHPD occur with psyches but not dissociatives or cannabanoids?

So there are plenty of accounts of people experiencing prolonged after effects both perceptually and sometimes emotionally / psychologically with psychedelics of the 5HT-2 agonist variety. Not to say this is common per se but that it is well known. I assume many of these experiences are due to overwhelming and unwanted spiritual experiences brought on by psychedelics, but dissociative drugs and cannabanoids at the right dosages can also produce outrageous and disturbing changes in consciousness.

Sometimes the changes are even more radical and confusing than those brought on by psychedelics. But I never hear of accounts where someone had a disturbing k hole experience that caused lasting mental problems for weeks or months. I have heard of lasting perceptual changes from very extensive dissociative abuse but that's a different issue. Same with cannabanoids, people get extremely confused and paranoid on too high doses of cannabanoids sometimes but you never heard of these experiences causing significant after effects.

Why is this the case? My only theory is that dissociatives and cannabanoids have much stronger amnesia inducing effects than psychedelics in general, so maybe its more difficult to get a lasting imprint of the experience? What are your thoughts?

I have read many reports of dxm causin and worsening hppd. While cannabis may not directly cause it you have to realize that people rarely take cannabis to the levels they do with 5ht2a paychadelics. Case in point bein that full agonist artificial cannabinoids are known to cause hppd occasionally on overdose. I would bet a bit of money that eatin a massive dose of weed with low tolerance repeatedly in a short period could induce hppd

It occurs with all types of psychotropics, especially those that cause modifications of vision.

I have heard of significant after effects from cannabis use (low tolerance individuals, high potency material via vapourisation). I've also seen people compalining about after effects of high dose ketamine use as well as poly-dissociative use (k+mxe) after effects.

I think "HPPD" is just a manifestation of people losing faith in their nervous system after an overwhelming psychedelic experience. They think that "visual snow" or what have you is "evidence of damage" rather than a normal artifact of the human perceptual system.

excuse my ignorance but what is hppd?
I had some fairly extreme visual distortions lasting weeks. Following a high dose mxe journey. My eyes and mind were highly sensitive to movement.

Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder. its where you get some effects of tripping while youre sober

My only long term lasting visual distortions that I still have today came from Cannabis and Ketamine, so I've experienced the complete opposite.

Psychedelics tend to give me some lasting visuals after my trip sometimes - especially phenethylamines, but a couple of weeks abstinence always gets rid of them, whereas both dissociatives and Cannabinoids dramatically worsened my visual static, and resulted in me pretty much permanently having CEVs (though that part I'm happy with).

It's highly debatable, and mostly subjective, but yes. I have hppd. And dissociatives...dxm, pcp, nitrous oxide, change my current visual field.

It depends what you mean, some people experience a constant visual experience stemming from the last trip, while others refer to having tracers or snow and whatnot for a residual period.

If I had to theorize, I would say that HPPD is a result of oxidative stress, and a natural coping mechanism of the brain/nervous system after drug use. (imo)

We had this discussion a while back. Ive seen many theories. Ill add here that my visual perceptions remain even after over 2 years of total sobriety. These symptoms tend to manifest during times of anxiety or anger. They include crawling on carpet or walls mostly.

I have had hppd for a number of years. First symptom was visual snow/static which I attribute to heavy ecstasy use (adulterants to be considered since you won't know what's in the pill) and later on sober trails emerged from repeated LSD/RC usage. At this point I haven't touched mdma for a year (ecstasy much longer) and no LSD for half a year. Visual snow, floaters, and trails have persisted to this day (stress makes the trails much stronger and longer to the point of seeing them from people who are walking).

I have also been smoking weed for 10 years, ketamine for 5 years and regular oxycontin/heroin use for 1.5 years which became a casual thing 4-5 months ago.

I definitely think that ketamine and marijuana worsen hppd, during and after use. This extra effect would subside in days/weeks/months.

Also I can see the visual snow with my eyes closed

I so much agree here, theese drugs seems to make you dumber. Cannabinoids also makes you forget your dreams, so not good for s spiritual awakening. However I believe MXE and their m-holes is something new.

I do love the HPPD changes makes by tinkering with the 5HT-2, having divine connection and spiritual awareness makes me a open lovenlly person feeling connected with nature and life itself. I feel like I am at the verge of breaking through reality where one can posess the powers of materializing matter by thought without using the drugs, hopefully this will not be possible as A HPPD!

Other than those mental perceptions some hiss in my ears, tinnius sounding - could also be from intense electro and trance music. Some spots in my visual field from time to time, and morphing of shadows when I'm tired.
