Why does everyone say OPIUM is hard to come by?

Ive been doing a bit of research on opium and have read that it is fairly easy to grow and extract the latex from the plant, therefore producing your opium.
Now what i dont understand is that this plants seed are readily available and can be grown by anyone, so why isnt it readily available like most other drugs?
 
Yeilds. It is very easy to grow poppies and refine latex. Also, very high quality seeds are readily available. Unless you have acres and acres to wrok with, your not gonna get much more than a personal stash.
In countries where large crops are dedicated to poppy cultivation, the opium is turned into heroin before it hits the streets. It's more economcal to do this.
 
Not speaking from experience, but make shallow scractches all over the flower pod after the petals fall off.
 
Jimmy_A: How many opium poppies would you need to obtain your personal stash? How much do you class as a personal stash?
Give me an approximation!
 
Ah but with some chemistry its 10,000 doses of a powerful opiod.
They've busted at least one fentanyl lab wonder if this will start to be more common. If I remember the story right it was because he was also growing a fuckton of pot there. Stupid mix. But I could just be misremembering.

quale-are you saying that fentanyl is produced using opium?fentanyl is completely synthetic,no opium is needed to synth it,just a shitload of knowledge,precursors and equipment.the bust you are talking about was completely avoidable.the guy was inteligent enough to produce fentanyl but too damn ignorant to know that the grow room was going to get him busted.a much larger fentanyl lab was busted in kansas in the early 90's,it was a legit chemical company run by a complete sociopath named george marguardt,he's doing life in a federal prison.he was cutting it and selling it in huge quantities as heroin.his "dope" killed over 50 people in philadelphia alone,it was sold with "tango&cash" being the stamp on the bags.in an interview on network tv he blamed the numerous overdose deaths on the users.he said in court that if he was to get out of the joint he would do it again.what an idiot.
 
opps your right it is completly synthetic...even better.
Why was it causing overdoses? Was he not cutting it enough or what was the deal? I mean given the shorter duration of action I would tend to expect less deaths but im not really sure.
 
Fentanyl is 40 times stronger than heroin, so if it was being sold as heroin people would shoot their normal dose of heroin, not knowing they only need a 40th of that, causing overdose.

That's only part of the story- fent doses are micrograms... that's a couple of specs of the chemical in a typical bag of dope... if you're splitting your bag- one shot could be all cut, one shot could be the entire stock of the fent... hello mr od.

man i wish when i was a kid i knew what those opium poppies my mom grew were. i could've been rich!
 
Um.. sorry, it's still labor intensive to say the least (we are talking about cultivating your own) .. I ask the poster, and those that are calling everyone that claims opium is hard to find 'idiots' a question - have YOU personally cultivated your own opium and found this to be a worthwhile means of obtaining the drug? Well, I would have to say that the entire process of planting the seeds and taking care of your plants is REWARDING but is it efficient? Naaa, not really.. it takes SO MANY poppies to yeild a good chunk of opium, it's really kinda a waste of time to try and run such an operation yourself .. I have been there and done that, and I find that POPPY TEA is a better use of the plants, your time, labor, and sanity!
As for fentanyl - I'm not even going to open that can of worms..
