I don't know if this thread has been done before. Why do you take drugs, despite all the risks, is the benefit really worth it?

no, it is not worth it. not at all.

so i don't do drugs.

and yes, i am superior to you in any and every way because of it. shrug.

In case of pharms, yes the benefit is definitely worth it.
As for the more stereotypical drugs, that's all just in good fun. The risks barely an issue if you read up on them first.

Fuck yeah.

Probably the riskiest drug i use is alcohol, but i still think the benefits outweigh the risks if I'm careful about it (although i am usually not :P)

Marijuana is used to be relaxed and high, i mix it with kava and valerian at night
Alcohol gives me social lubrication and a release from stress
MDMA helped me change my life for the better (speaking of which, its high time for another session), i only do it a few times a year
LSD gave me spiritual and mental insights and a fuckload of fun

The risks can be minimized with moderation, harm reduction, and common sense, and i think if you're smart about it, its safer than taking a drive down the highway.

risks aren't an issue, as has been said here, when you understand what you're dealing with

i use different drugs for different reasons

marijuana: mental insight, appreciation of reality and perception
ecstasy: insight into my life, and an invincible happiness
opioids: they make my body feel pleasant
alcohol: social lubricant

My sentiments exactly ;)

a point for the original poster though; were you to ask this very same question in another forum (say, TDS for instance) you would get an entirely different response, so its kind of biased and will only give you one side of the coin.

Because, it's the hip thing to do and it makes someone so much more interesting and cool if they take drugs. 8)

Actually, I take drugs because I have nothing better to spend money on and they feel really good. It's a bit of a reward mechanism, it's hard to maintain a drug habit without earning money to support it. Sometimes, I'll do a drug just to get that drug off the little drug checklist.

I second that :)

marijuana, alcohol and nitrous i take for fun with mates.
MDMA i use when im feeling like i dont have too much direction in my life or to blow off a shiload of stress
LSD i use instead of going on a holiday and for fun!

Mostly to have fun. There's so much stuff I'd have never experienced or seen if I didn't take drugs.

Though I do drink occasionally when I'm down. When I say occasionally, I mean I drink a hell of a lot, but only sometimes when I feel bad.

Without recreational drug use I would be a nervous wreck, gotta let that steam out and balance out.

prolly this ends the discussion...

on the other hand , pharmaceuticals are for ur own benefit , when ure insomniac ( like I am ) you just need something to chill before going to bed...

And opiates are good........

yes i'm talking shit and yes i need sleep ( havent slept 2 days ) :|

There's benefits and down-falls that all kind of cancel each other out. I'd say I haven't "benefitted" any better or worse than if I didn't use drugs.

yes, but i have the luxury of saying that not having had (touch wood) any overly bad experiences with any of my drug use.

some people (whether physically or psychologically) do not mix well with certain drugs...I haven't found anything that presents a problem for me yet, so I'm lucky.

I take drugs to enhance my life, not to fill a void I'm experiencing, and to "expand my mind" just to truly outwank myself :\

Because being "straight" is a single state of mind that I have spent 99.9% of my life in, and still do most days of the month. Drugs are fun because they let me experience everything I experience everyday but in a different way.

We don't have the same eating experience every time we are hungry, choosing a variety of things to eat. Otherwise, the experience would be boring and a deprivation to ourselves in many ways.

Why should we have the same perspectives every single day? Diversity is never a bad thing as far as living our lives.

Routine is redundant and life is for living.
