Not sure where this topic should go, so here it goes:
How about a comprehensive, scientific study of why people get high, and then design the safest drugs to meet their needs.
Say hypothetically, or in a science fiction novel, a society finally acknowledged its need to simply "get high" and then invented the best drug -- what would it be like? Definitely thinking of Huxley here, though his drug world was pretty dark... But also curious to find out what is the most popular reason for wanting to get high, or to turn to organic or chemical means of feeling better.
I make no excuses for my personal opinion: Changing one's consciousness and what one puts in his or her body is pretty damn sacred. I believe wanting to get high is a human trait just like having a torso.
I can also predict the results of this survey. The overwhelming majority of respondents will say:
"I get high because it's fun."
I'll check that box. And I'll continue to get high until it stops being fun, or I end up in rehab, or I die. Give me liberty, and give me a doobie, and a Dutch beer, and occasionally a few other herbs and spices, and I'll be capable of pursuing the happiness.
Or is that hippiness? Whatever. Peace.
