Why do you do your job?

I do my job for money, obviously, but my past two jobs are in my field of interest (sedimentology). My current job will also help me in the research I plan to do for my undergrad & grad research. Also, it helps me learn things that I wouldn't otherwise learn in classes, as there aren't many sedimentology based courses at my uni, but there are quite a few professors in the field.
 
commercial fishin- i do my job because its the only thing i ever loved doing
-in 19 yrs no 2 days have ever been the same
-there is absolutely no politics, u are judged strictly by ur performance
--i like the schedule: 6-10 trips w/ between 6 hrs and 2 days off in between and off April thru Aug
-of course the money which is pretty fucking good without a college education
-it forces me to stay clean 8 months a year
-i would be swingin from the nearest tree if i had to work a fixed schedule, sit on the interstate like a zombie every mornin, or put up w/ workplace politics
- its the second oldest profession and one where i can see tangible results, feeding people is a noble thing imo
-the work environment is awesome(atlantic ocean)
-i could go on and on because i haven't been to work in almost 4 mos. and am chompin at the bit to get it on, when its over in april i will swear its my last season like i have every past year
oh yeah, very important u appreciate all the things people take for granted, after 8 months on a boat livin like a savage: my girl, my dogs, sleepin for more than 3-4 hours, eatin out, and of course gettin high amongst a million other things

Commercial fishermen rock! I've been around them my whole life on Cape Cod and all the ones I know are great men, and lots of them are raising great kids.
 
Because on my best nights I make more money than most people make in two weeks, and some a month.

I don't have to be on a schedule or come to work if I don't feel like it. Nobody tells me what to do. And if I get really sick of one club I can go to another one.

And I get to wear and buy awesome clothes, and the best part... dance and actually make money for it.
 
I go because working is good for me, both mind and spirit.

I'm not doing something difficult, and it pays very poorly. But, I've stuck with it for a few years. I am proud of that. In the past I tended to jump ship quick.
 
thanx for the vote of confidence Northside-and yea i am a great man and definitely rock- nah i'm just kiddin- u are lucky to live in such a great place, i think Mass is one of the most comm fishin friendly states i've ever been in- and i tried to work a land job a few times and it sucked, even when a trip is a "broker", and u r cold, sleep deprived, totally miserable in a million different ways, etc- i still love it and consider it a gift for many different reasons
 
I work to pay bills and maintain my habit. Also, I like having some structure in my life I end up depressed if I have too much time on my hands.
 
I work a shit dead end job but only as a means to an end. I'm saving up to move to Australia / go travelling. Only 6 weeks left to work, hand my notice in a week on Monday.

At this period in my life I don't want a meaningful job / career. I can't see any value in it as it usally ends up with people being trapped. It's not the life for me, so I'm opting to this dead end job for now then when I'm in Australia / travelling I'll do some casual work where possible to fund further travels.
 
do my job because it pays the bills and the money earned affords me a good time.
