Why do you do your job?

washing boats outside in the BRIGHT sun shining summer couldn't be any more fun really..
getting to walk around barefoot all day and soaking myself head to toe with a hose while standing on the tip top of a 32ft boat in the middle of huge farm fields is my idea of a good job..
the pay is great and the old bearded fellows i work with are funny as hell..

i'm guessing people like dentists & lawyers typically go into the profession because of the money & prestige etc., but probably get bored and disillusioned after a few years. by which time they're reluctant to lose all that and move into something else.

i do my job (a job) to make money. we all need it after all!

but i'm at that certain age (mid-30s) where i've managed to work my way up with a relatively impressive CV/resume, and i don't need to scratch a living any more. i've really enjoyed my last two jobs (loads of money, great job satisfaction, cool people to work with etc.) and i'm just about to start another one on thursday. 8o

i'll be working on an offshore oil platform on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rota. i've been wanting to do that for a while now, the main motivation (apart from the money) being all the time off. i also get 4 weeks holidays a year on top of that. so my options are very open to do something useful and constructive and FUN! i should be able to go on many more holidays too. :)

oh, that reminds me - i will be relatively free from the spectre of drug testing, especially on my first weekend home. YAY! =D

I work in the field of Telecoms as a network engineer...
I often think about whether there is something that I'd enjoy more but at the end of the day, I really do have an easy life.
I accidentally fell into this role and it has always paid well, has given me the chance to travel and live in other countries (England, Ireland, Sweden, Australia and now North America) and the work can be really slow, other times demanding.
I am quite happy to be bored as hell and playing on the net, or to be working in total chaos trying to fight fires, so it really suits my personality.

...but yeh, mainly the money so I can do whatever the hell I want to do! =D

I do design work because it's what I enjoy doing and am good at. I make enough money, but im still in school too. My work and free time are both equally important to me. But I have to say I like free time a LOT more. So I guess I work to be able to afford the things I want. Money can equal happiness for me.

Because as much as it shits me, i know i am damn good at it. It is a job to give me money to travel, it gives me financial independence (some, i don't earn heaps) and it makes me feel useful. Its purely a part time job whilst i am studying, and my work is really flexible, alot of ppl there are students and they are very lenient. I have had alot of time off due to being sick and surgeries, and they had no problem at all with it. There is alot of change in management constantly, but managers are generally kind-ish. Once i finish studying i will get my career started, for the time being work can be mostly fun because everyone is young and we have a laugh. The money isnt that bad either, i get good superannuation considering im only 20 years old.

1. I work for myself.
2. The moneys very good for what i do.
3. I make my own hours so I make sure im home by 2 pm.
4. I'm in 3 to 5 homes each day and have a great customer base , I have fun at what I do . ;)

I second that, it sounds similar to mine, except I can't understand why, when I make my own hours, I work twice as much/long as an hourly fixed "job" :\ ... but on the other hand...it's a family thing, I can't really complain about the $ except that I spend it too fast, and,

IcebergSlim: cause idle hands are the devils playground....

Oh... How true... :|

money.

not having to ask my parents for a dime, and be independent.

so I give away my freedom to work and buy it back with money, without never really realizing I'm stuck in this endless wheel of producing/consuming.

I think that if I wasn't finishing the uni, I would feel very very depressed about just working for a living and to buy stuff/travel/whatever.

I applied because I was tired of working retail with a college degree and this opportunity just kind of fell in my lap. I stay because the money is decent and they're flexible with my vacation time. I'd leave though; I'm regularly, though not really seriously, looking for something else.

I get 2 1/2 months off and all holidays so that's why I do it. Hoping to switch into Guidance Counseling soon, now that I enjoy. If you couldn't guess, I'm a teacher.

Lol I still can't stand it, only ten times more one year later. But, it is really good money for doing fuck all, they have helped me change my contract due to school, but im resigning in a few weeks cause I am really sick of it. So yay :D

Well when I was still blowing glass I did it because..

1. I was my own boss and set my own hours, and it was easy/practically encouraged to be stoned 24/7..
2. I made decent money.. esp considering I have a GED and virtually no legit employment history..
3. I got to set my wages, within reason, by shopping my pipes around to diffrent shops for more $$ if I thought I could get more
4. I got to be creative at work, and call myself an artist..
5. I could work at home if I had my own place.. I did for awhile at my parents but they couldn't take the mess and we live in a place with a neighboorhood assoc and my parents think they'd trip at me cartin oxy and propane tanks around..

Also someone said if they won they lottery they'd leave in a second.. I would keep doing what i do, but prolly work less, never rush, and only make higher end stuff I enjoy making more that dosen't pay as well per hour, as opposed to repetitive production work..

Thats a pretty good measure of how much you like your job, if you'd keep doing it if you won the big lottery and it was optional to work then..

gotta do whatcha feel yo..

I love my job but if I didn't need the money I'd stay home. People think I'm a workaholic because I usually put in at least 60 hours a week, but that's only because I'm money-hungry.

I do my job to buy drugs, and I buy drugs so that I don't blow my brains out before tying my tie. True story. :/
