Why do we pay Philosopher's (and the like) for basic Stoner Thoughts? Have they ever solved anything?

It's shit like oooh there's a cat in a box with a gear that pulls a lever to kill 3 children or save one philosopher.

I was asking myself this very question.
Let's say you consult a philosopher for a task.
Like building a barn, how could a philosopher help with the job.

philosophers are like mathematicians that think they're comedians

He'll build you a nous with a bunch of rules to follow. Won't do you any good but you could be in high standing with the white beards!

sounds like a hassle...
Maybe I'd just simply set up a room for him/her to study/write so I can be left alone

Sure, if I had the money, why not? maybe it could be of use some day
But I get stoned all the time you mean you'd pay me? So the color Blue is unlike any other color on the spectrum it has the most Spirit! It is the air we breathe! 50k a year and I will churn out thoughts per second for you! You don't think they should relegated to fanfiction?

Most spirit? Interesting... See, I wanted to build this barn, maybe you could be of help on this!

hahahaha! You're a good person. Sounds like you want me to focus but I'm busy churning out thoughts per minute on your payroll. However, the God's want it Blue or 40 years of suffering. You don't think of language as a 'parasite that can act against our nature'*?

*Slavoj Zizek.

I think the language can only do so much.
I am also not too sure if a living thing could be truly described as a 100% true parasite.
Maybe a thing like language might be even more fitting for this kind of description. I think I get it. Never read Zizek though.

Philosophers do get hyped though, when one starts actually reading their books for what they are, you can surely get behind it in a more enlightening way, or find out if they actually have something for you or not.

I don't like when people try to reach an absolute conclusion about philosophical topics though. (which all of them do in some way or another, I think it's maybe inherent to thinking in written words). That is mostly the point where they lose me...

I think more grayish probably

A philosopher? Could that be any sort of teacher, or are you only referring to states of mind, life, etc.? A lot of theories about life and stuff; one theory is as good as another. What it boils down to is what you believe, if you need someone to tell you what to believe, that's a different story.

yeah, great point!

"Philosopher" covers a huge range of beliefs and applications. When I took an intro philosophy class way back when, I remember being surprised by the use of logic and discipline by various philosophers in justifying their conclusions. ( Not that they necessarily persuaded me)
On the other hand, me and my stoner friends were anything but disciplined and our logic was pretty vague. Plus getting the munchies kept distracting us from all that useful thinking

Very few philosophers, if any, get paid at all for their knowledge. People who earn philosopher degrees do not look forward to careers that provide them with wealth and/power. The question of why any pays them is largely academic.

The OP included (and the like), which may include teachers of religion, soothsayers, gurus, etc. Not limited to philosophers of. knowledge

Along those lines, have there been any new philosophies of thought and reason lately?
