I do drugs for a few reason, mainly that they are my hobby and keep me sane. They relieve boredome. Make things fun. Keep me awake. Show me new things. Entertain me.

firnymph i think you had the best answer, ther is no one reason to do drugs, its always a combination of reasons, i like to think i am the scientific illicit drug abuser.
i love reality, when i take drugs i enjoy coming back toearth after its done

"other drugs - aplace to discuss any drugs besides xtc, trip reports experiences -anything" so to all you "this doesnt belong here" a big hearty shut up (pronounced shutt oooop!!!)

I would probably descibe what I do as, I like to try new things. To see what makes you feel like what..ya know? And then the drugs that I do like, I do more.

I think this question would be best answered in two parts; the first section dealing with general reasons why people do drugs, while the second part would explain my personal reasons for drug use.
Humans have been ingesting mind-altering substances since the beginning of recorded history. Man has used drugs to enhance is connection to his god, and spirit, as well as using them for socializing and relaxed inhibitions. I think the latter is the main force that has propelled drugs throughout the centuries. Undoubtedly, civilizations have been constructed in fashions that are in many ways contradictory to human nature. In our own modern era, we have become a society ruled by rigid social standards, which guide us in how to speak, dress, and act. Wild, uninhibited behavior is frowned upon, even though it is solely in the free, unrestricted pursuit of pleasure that we find happiness. And this is why drugs continue to be so popular. They release us from the social mores that Western culture has ingrained in our minds since our inception. When people are inebriated, a whole new spectrum of socially acceptable acts is available to them. Suddenly, unabashed fornication, wild animalistic behavior, undiluted honesty, and even love, can now be openly expressed. Drugs affect much more than just neurotransmitters in the brain; they alter culture itself; they transform the standards of society from being diametrically opposed to human nature, to being in perfect harmony. This is the reason for humanity's obsession with drugs. Certainly, there are more reasons for drug use than just escaping moral standards. Some use them to diminish pain, others to simply relax and forget about their day-to-day problems. But, regardless of the reason, the central theme remains the same: Man cannot change his world, so instead he changes his mind.
As for myself, I use drugs for a variety of reasons. Sometimes I use drugs lighten my mood at party, or sometimes I use them to relax at home. On some occasions I use drugs for their innate pleasure; that ineffable feeling one gets when they perceive the world through new eyes. This is why I do drugs.
In addition to my response to the question, I would like to propose my own. Why do we continue to tolerate a society that prevents us from achieving maximum satisfaction? After all, we are all society; it is not some autonomous entity that exists outside of us. The current society we live in continues to persist only because we allow it to. To change it, we merely need to make coherent and collective choice to do so. If we truly want to be happy, we first choose to be happy, and be ready to fight those who wish to stop us.

Well, I recently had this discussion with a friend of mine, and it was decided that there is no good reason to do drugs. What it does to the body certinly isn't good, nto to say that it's specifically bad, but it isn't good. In the end it came down to the fact that Drugs are fun... There is no real alternative answer. Even if you claim that you need drugs, that is one of the major signs of addiction, and is certinly not a good sign. So to put it simply Drugs are fun.

i really dont think i use drugs to ESCAPE..i mean, what is their to escapoe to be HONEST??i dont understand, i mean everyone has problems but that problem will still be there once the DRUG wears off..
i take drugs, mostly OPIATES because it RELAXES me and makes me feel NICE...im not as RESTLESS as i used to be, and i used to be just KINDA BORED alot of the time when i was younger..i couldn't stay busy enough of the time, so now i take drugs to MELLOW me out i guess...

I truely believe that illicit drugs are simply a means of self-medication... I use opiates on a fairly regualr basis simply as they "fix" the "broken" parts of my brain... sober I am edgy, nervous, shy, and my brain moves TO FAST ... I can't finish a single task at hand because my mind is wanting to move on to something else... I also don't give a damn about anyone or anything.... but when I am mellowed off the warmth of opiates, my mind slows to a managable pace, I am finish something I start too... socially, opiates make me more of an outgoing person, where I can put myself in a "social" mode... see, no matter what, I don't give a flyingh shit about the slamming after party you went to last weekend, but if I am blissed I can *ALMOST* show some intrest in these things, or at least join in the conversation...
It's like the cure all medicine - opiates that is..
I tkae benzos when I need to calm down, rest/relax, etc...
It really depeends on the drug... I take MDMA when I want to connect with one other person .. I could see myself blowing uop at a rave again too
I take cocaine when I have a needle and it's free ...
I don't take much anything else ....
It all depends on the drug - they each have their own purpose, and thats what I take them for ...

The biggest reason I started using is because everyone told me I'm not allowed (I have a serious problem with authority). I continue to use because I can't think of a single serious reason to stop.

So basically, you are agreeing with my earlier post in this thread ("connection to god" = spiritual/scientific drug use, "socializing" = recreational drug use, "relaxed inhibitions" = escapism)?

...no question is ignorant.....if anything it's the opposite.....if u where ignorant u wouldn't ask the question...

&...taking drugs as mentioned before....to me is like taking a poor mans holiday!...
smile.gif
....apart from lots of other things...each experience & drug brings out different things..
smile.gif

If done in a sensible manner it's no different to the person that has drinks on Friday night or whatever....it's just a different person's drug of choice...

Why, because every time I do drugs they take me to such a different world and I cant help but be curious...
Every time I do drugs I dicover something. I observe things in such a different way when I am high that I seem to notice things at a different level and before I know it I'v come up with something that I never realized before. That is one reason. Drugs basically open new doorways in my brain... simple as that.

Im so sober that I feel high.

Life is short.....experience as much fun as you can before the lights go out. Enjoy yourself!
