Why do we call them RCs on Bluelight?

Yeah, I fear that "designer drug" can be taken by people to mean that the drugs have been designed to be drugs (and thus are less dangerous than other things, which is completely false). "Research Chemicals" suggests that research is still being done on these chemicals, which is true. We don't know the long term effects, the health dangers (acute or chronic, short term or long term), and in many cases we don't even know what makes them have different effects compared to similar compounds.

I think we could also call them RPDC's or "Random Probably Dangerous Chemicals"... the one fear i have with the name RC is that people might think they are radio-controlled :).

Give it a little while.... before too long, we'll be hearing on Coast-to-Coast AM about the shadow government using RCs to control our minds.... since it didn't work in the 60's when the CIA and KGB tried it with LSD and fuck-knows-what-else, yeh know.... 8)

A lot of these so-called research chemicals actually have a lot of utility. For example, I have a better response to 2C-P than I do with LSD, and think I actually prefer it to acid. It has fewer side effects, less likely to cause nausea, and 2C-P actually elevates my mood for a few days after use (LSD on the other hand gives me a severe comedown comparable to taking an extremely high dose of MDMA > say 750mg). Besides, it is often difficult to get hold of mushrooms or LSD, as these appear to be pretty rare in the UK.

I guess my whole point in my previous post was that this is a case where we aren't even talking about roses. Calling all of these drugs "RCs" (or any other name used to unify this disparate group of substances into a common category) is akin to looking at a garden of daffodils, lilies, carnations, roses, and lavender bushes and saying "see those? all roses!".
