Why do opiates make us feel so warm inside?

Hello. So I've always wondered why opiates make me feel cosy and warm inside? What is the science behind this? I just don't really get it, no other drug has really done this to me... So what is it about opiates that make you feel warm? What's the science?

Because they are MAGICAL....the short answer.

What you are feeling is the onset of euphoria. Euphoria is defined as;

Euphoria (/juːˈfɔəriə/; from Ancient Greek εὐφορία, from εὖ eu, "well", and φέρω pherō, "to bear") (semantically opposite of dysphoria) is medically recognized as a mental and emotional condition in which a person experiences intense feelings of well-being, contentment, elation, happiness, excitement, and joy.

They take our pain away, whether its physical or emotional, opiates do a great job & once that problem.is gone, we feel euphoric in that sense.

Once you take the dose of the opiate, you get that warm feeling & have no care in the world.

Of course with pleasure comes pain......the highs & lows of these drugs.

If you start this roller coaster ride, hold onto the handle bars.......

They are a neccesary evil in this world of repressed emotional and physical pain. Confidence is thru the roof when I'm high

Opiates are not the only drug that do this you know. What about cannabis? One you go outside to smoke a joint in the cold here in Canada at first your shivering but after you finish the joint you stop shivering and become warm and content. Its euphoria taking over your mind and a fake sense of well being/ feeling warm.

Trainspot, the euphoria & warm feeling are totally different from cannibis to opiates IMO/ime......

I never felt content with the world while smoking weed no matter how good it was compared to opiates.

The euphoria are totally different & opiates are on a different level.

Body: At lower doses, they take pain away. At higher doses, they continue to take pain away even when there is no pain at all, the result being that you feel the polar opposite of pain. Mind: It activates some of the same receptors as would be during a (natural) adrenaline rush. It also releases a ton of dopamine and probably the same amount of serotonin, making you feel pretty damn good. I believe the polar-opposite-of-pain thing continues into the brain, which explains the mindset opiates can put one into. I've seen my friend go from antisocial (by nature) to warm and loving (UTI) in about 5 minutes once it comes on. Just my 3 cents

I'm the same way with weed. I have never gotten the same effect from it as I have from opiates. No where near the same. Weed, by itself, puts me in a don't care mood, and just a live for the moment feeling simply because I cannot think that far ahead! Mix a little bit of weed with opiates and it really works well for me.

Course the great thing about our bodies is how they react a little different from another's with the same drug.

I think some of the "warmth" is histamine-related. It usually makes me flush and raises my body temperature which are usually associated with a histamine response.

You've never smoked BC bud then my friend. Its very similar to me and many others some people don't like weed as much or it doesn't mix good with them but it does make you warm and content with the world just as how opiates do but opiates are the better more addictive high I will admit weed just isnt nearly as good once you've tried opiates.

Closest thing I came to what you describe about BC bud was pure sativa that I had back in the late 90's......had it around for 3 years & then it disappeared. It was on a level all on its own & I quit smoking cause I couldn't get it anymore. Although I still could get high grade, just wasn't the same.

Yea I have discovered shatter oil recently and now that's what I have been smoking I take one toke of that here and there and it works wonders on pain and anxiety when I smoke weed though I don't get much effect I need to dome a whole joint but its tolerance like everything else it just needs to be brought down to enjoy bud again fully and its not too bad i still get a little high cause I don't smoke a shitload of shatter.

God's Own Medicine in it's organic state will always make the world a warmer place.
Yea I hear you there brother.

To the OP:Because they're fucking awesome, that's why! It's the science of "hell yeah".

histamine release. your brain is also releasing much more dopamine/endorphins than usual so bodily sensations (such as a histamine release) can feel "enchanced", like a warm rush or "cozy sensation".

Opiates stop effects of the chemicals in your brain that trigger pain responses to your nerve endings. They basically do the job that endorphins are supposed to do for your body (block the pain, tell the brain you are "feeling fine and good"), so when you add more and more of a substance that simulates the job of endorphins (stuff that is supposed to make you feel good) of course you will get "high" and feel great feelings from it.

You can kind of generally apply this to any medicine. People with severe pain obviously your body can only produce so much "natural painkiller" before you can stand it, so this is where opiates step up and finish the job where your brain can't. People with anxiety basically suffer from the brain's ability to get "over-excited" and thus medicines that increase GABA activity (Xanax, Valium, and other benzos) just help the brain feel the effects of GABA (the brain's natural soothing mechanism) better to calm the brain.

You get the picture. Medicine is quite obviously made to take advantage of mechanisms/chemicals already built-in, it just leverages them.
