Stimulants Why do meth and propylhexedrine's effects last drastically longer than amphetamine's?

I have taken adderal and the effects (when not time released) only last about 5 hours or so. For me, propylhexedrine lasts 15+ hours and from what I hear it is the same with meth (I've never tried it). Considering the fact that meth and prope are structurally very similar to amphetamine why do they last so substantially longer?

I am not condoning drug use.

Methamphetamine has a longer half life and has active metabolites (one of which is actually amphetamine).

So in other words, the chemicals which meth are broken down into are psychoactive whereas the chemicals which amp is broken down into is not psychoactive (or less so)?

The active metabolites of meth contribute to the length of it's effects (specifically, the comedown during which you're not high any more - because the much-more-powerful meth is mostly gone - but can't sleep because there's still a bunch of amphetamine hanging around). But in general, different drugs have different halflifes, period. Some drugs are easier for the body to degrade than others. Sometimes it's obvious looking at the structure of the drug, usually it's not.

Got it.
