The reason men cheat is the biological urge to procreate with anyone. That said only 20% of men present as a desirable enough figure for women to make that decision. On the other end of it, women cheat in order to secure genetic material they view as more fit. They will do so with likely the same man whom other women do that with.

Successful traits produce succesful offspring. Cheating allows you to acquire those genetics without breaking the social contract of marriage. So you can marry an absolute failure who is a great provider and have children with a failure of a provider who is an absolutely great man.
